i guess i didn't leave any examples of stuff i've got recently, i got a tg-16 for 20$ and a like new complete skullmonkeys for 10$
Back when I was in high school I didn't have a job, but I made good money buying old video game stuff for cheap (mainly from other students) and reselling it on eBay. Now that I collect the stuff, I regret some of those sales. One huge find in particular was a Colecovision with like 10 games and a bunch of other stuff-- found it at a yard sale for $5!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, $5 for everything. I don't remember any of the games now except for Adventure and Frogger (possibly the best home version of the game). I wasn't really familiar with older stuff at the time; this was during the Playstation era and that and the SNES/Genesis were about the extent of my knowledge. I forget how much I resold it for, but it was higher than similar Coleco auctions I saw-- so there must have been something pretty rare in there. Don't know what it was.... but either way, probably the best pickup and dumbest sale combined into one for me.
The rarest thing I've picked up dirt cheap was a loose copy of Joshua & the Battle of Jericho for the Genesis (R7) for 63 cents back in 2004 at a GameStop. This was when older games were being cleared out at 30% off, and it was originally marked 89 cents.
My best find was Crazy Climber on the Atari 2600 for $1!
I traded it on here for a few great Saturn games.

I got my wife for free, does that count?
Now I pay! and keep paying!!
Oh am I paying!!
I'm just trying to keep from losing my mind!
Last summer, at a garage sale I got a Gamecube with 2 controllers, memory card, Super Mario Sunshine, and Resident Evil for $10, then later the same summer I picked up another GC and two controllers and mem card for $10...but the second one has issues.
Goddamn. If only the people in South Florida were to be that generous/ignorant of what they have.
I bought a rNES (toploader) with about 40 games from a friend for $20. I told her it was worth much more, but insisted that I buy it for only $20. She was a good friend... I wonder what she is doing now.
I also got a complete Laseractive system with all the PACs (including the NEC PAC) and 17 games for only $200. I consider that to be relatively dirt-cheap.
Scott
I love buying stuff now, that I could never afford in the past!!!

I tend to freqent CAG alot and have learned a lot of my garage sale haggling skills on the yard sale thread over there. I don't live in a good area for yard sales, so my finds don't compare to some other guys there. Some of them have talked people down on stuff to prices I just can't believe. I have managed to make some good finds though. A few of my favorites are:
$10 Complete JVC X'Eye (box and everything)
$7 Gameboy Advance SP
$2 Vectrex (unfortunately no games)
$0.25 Suikoden 2 strategy guide
$0.25 Final Fantasy VII (pc version), which I traded with another guy for a loose Chrono Trigger
I've greatly increased my Genesis collection through garage saling and regained alot of my NES games which my parents sold. I still need to find a copy of Contra and Kid Icarus, but I haven't managed to see one of that at a yard sale yet. I do kind of dream of finding a Neo Geo AES at a garage sale, but I don't have to much hope for that.

my first post was finding two turbo expresses for 20.00 each . and then i sold one on ebay for 80.00 . that would have to be my best/cheap deal finding in the wild . and also i found an Xbox-Marvel vs Capcom 2 at a salvation army complete , for 5 dollars .
There's quite a few "dirt cheap" finds I can think of. Some of the bigger ones for me were at garage sales, such as a 7800 console + 87 assorted 2600 & 7800 games for $8 (this was in the late 90's) and a boxed TG-16 with 20+ games for $15 (a few years ago). It's not that unusual to see people get rid of stuff just to make room...and basically almost give it away

I didn't put a lot of effort into thrift store hunting all that much, and when I was about to give up on the whole thing, I came across a Vectrex. No controller, but it fired up fine. They had no idea what it was, and asked me about it. I told them it was a black and white game console from the '70s and '80s era, which kept it kind of vague and didn't let them know how excited I was. They only charged me $5! After that, I started hitting the thrifts fairly regularly.
Another good find was coming across a strange NES cartridge at a flea market last year. It was off-white and was shaped differently from standard carts. Got home, looked it up online, and discovered that this cartridge, the "Myriad 6-in-1", was one of the most rare NES games out there. I've never been a Nintendo fan, but I was planning on keeping it for my collection, and then my car started having problems. Videogame Collector's Magazine placed it's value at $150, DP's Rarity Guide placed it at $350, and I ended up getting $660 on eBay for it. Not bad for a $3 cart.

well i think my best find was an nes with 2 controllers the advantage grey gun connections and about 15 games for free at a salvation army
i actually found crazy climber in my parents basement in a box of about 50 games they picked up at a flea market. i put the whole lot on ebay and after getting about 10 emails about the crazy climber, i took it out of the lot and sold it for 85 bucks! that was when i realized how much money can be made reselling games.
