Okay, I mentioned that I saw an old Mexican guy walking off with a really nice Ion DJ's mixing table a few days ago at a Goodwill back lot sale. I forgot to mention that after he left I found the speakers that originally went with the table. They are Ion ISP02 speakers and they are so much superior to the set of Panasonic (cylinder) speakers that I'm using on my computer. For some reason I felt compelled to mention that because they are awesome speakers.

Garage sales were alright today. I found a few non-gaming related things.

A boxed copy of Raios for the Famicom came in the mail today (straight from Japan!) after a couple weeks of waiting. It cost around $3 including shipping and I thought it was a good deal. Didn't realize it was a very text heavy turn-based strategy game >_<. Oh well.

Picked up a few things at a Church Bazaar today:

    N64 Pokemon Stadium cart
    Palm Vx PDA
    PS1 Contender 2 - Still sealed
Cleaner Plus PC software for converting records to MP3s
Sony Clie NX60 - With the USB cradle, but missing the AC cord

All of that for $9, and I hope to go back tomorrow morning and get the AC cord for the Clie, I remember seeing it there and doubt that it would sell on its own.

I got a few records today, but nothing interesting other than a 33 titled The United States Army Recruiting Service Presents "Country Express".

It also says, "This record is the property of the government of the United States and cannot be used for commercial purposes."

Is this just a rebranding for the military or something?

A picture would help. What exactly is the record itself? Is it like, pop music, or something they were supposed to play in the background at the recruiting office?

I played a few seconds of it on my old record player with a bad needle, and it sounds like it's a recording of some sort of Army sponsored country music show, interspersed with messages about "visiting your local Army recruiter today". Very odd piece indeed, can't wait until my new record player comes in the mail so I can listen to it in depth.

It does sound like background music, so maybe it was meant to be played in a recruitment office like you said. I assume that "N.G" means "no good", which is odd because it plays fine.

I see, the army stuff is actually part of the label. I was thinking it was stamped on after printing like a radio demo would be.

I'm curious though, what in the world does "N.G." mean on a record? I swear I've seen it on other records, particularly DJ vinyl. Was someone scratching the army country? That would make one hell of a mixtape...

The other side said "This side O.K", but about the DJ theory, around a month ago a bunch of vinyl from the mid-90's showed up in the Goodwill I got this from. A DJ must have switched to CDs and dropped his collection off at Goodwill.

Yo dawg it means dat they are "Nice Grooves".

I have no idea, really. "No Good" does seems like a viable answer, though I think it might've been the original owner's initials.

@Tupin: I saw this thing on History Detectives about U.S. Army recruitment music on the radio. It might be worth looking that up because it just might have some information that you could use.

I'm sorry. I can't remember. There was this record that had some patriotic music of some sort recorded on it. They figured out what the music was from. It was recorded on a special large record that could only be played on a certain type of turntable.

(/me shimmies to History Detectives site really quick and searches for it.)

    ...Ah, okay here:
    http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetect...ntspecial.html

Not exactly for recruitment, but it was an official US Army recording.

(Sorry that my memory is terrible today.)

    EDIT:

    Take a look at this.

I went back to the booth I got the comics at and I found this gem hidden underneath some of the comics I left behind. It's still brand new!

I also got those two books from the booth I got the The Who boxset yesterday.

Ah, I see, it's an Army record that was made for recruitment offices. Makes sense. My record isn't exactly the one you posted, but I'll have to listen to it more.

    Thanks for looking that up.

i mentioned a few days ago that my find included my wife giving birth to twins on Fri, oct. 9th....happiest moment in my life for sure!!

I failed to mention that i also picked up NBA 2k10 for the 360 around Oct 6 i believe.

Unfortunately, haven't gotten anything recently for any of my older systems. i am however looking for some decent TG 16 hucards and a couple of 3DO games in the form of Samarai Showdown and star control 2

    Megaman Battle Network 5 (Brady)
    Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone (Prima)
Totally Unauthorized Resident Evil 2 Survival Guide (Brady)
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (DoubleJump Books)
Super Mario 64 Survival Guide by J. Douglas Arnold & Mark Elies
    Too Human (Prima)

Master System Games (filling in holes in my collection):

    Alien Syndrome - $2.99

He also had Aztec Adventure, The Ninja, Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars, Zillion II and Hang On/Safari Hunt in the box w/o instructions that I passed on (own all but Aztec and Ninja).

Also, my shipment for my N64 and NES games came in. The N64 ended up being loose in the box w/o instructions and styrofoam, so I'll probably end up selling it. The NES games came with box and instructions, but it turns out they were former rentals. The instructions were photocopied
