Default Wanted: Cheap Gamecube for two poor kids (or $$$!)

Most of the custodians here where I work are people struggling to make ends meet. There is one lady in particular named Sandra who has been here almost as long as my wife and I have. She has two kids, Pablo, age 8, and Miguel, age 5.

Last year, Sandra went on a road trip to Mexico. Somewhere in the middle of Texas she had a blowout and swerved off the road. Her truck rolled several times. Pablo ended up in ICU but is okay now. Her brother and cousin were both killed. Now Sandra's family is suing her for the accident, saying she fell asleep at the wheel and caused the accident. During this time her family called her collect from Mexico a ton, and she ended up with an $800 phone bill she can't pay either.

To make a long story short, Sandra was talking to my wife about Christmas and she said basically her kids weren't getting anything this year. When Susan asked her what they wanted all she would say is they need some new clothes. About a month or so ago, I was talking to her because she saw a picture of my gameroom and she mentioned that her kids really wanted a Gamecube but that she could never afford one.

Anyway ... I was just kind of poking around here to see if anyone had one they would let go pretty inexpensively. If someone has a GC that's collecting dust or has a store that could get me a good deal on one (or even better, write it off), let me know. If someone comes up with a 'Cube, I'd be willing to buy 4 or 5 games, and I've got an extra controller as well.

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

NOTE: We now have a Gamecube AND a Gameboy Advance donated, so if you have a spare game for either of those systems lying around, they would make a great gift for these kids!

If you would prefer to simply send a donation, $10 or even $5 could really help out. What doesn't go towards games and accessories will go toward a couple of gift cards which will most lkely go towards food, clothes, and other small gifts.

Since I think we've gone with the "donation" idea over someone physically sending me a Gamecube, I'm going to shadow this in the main forum as well. Thanks again to everyone who's helped so far. A little bit from everyone ends up being a lot to kids with literally nothing. Thank you all again!

I find this to be a great cause as well. Unfortunately, like autobotracing, I don't have much money to my name. I have $4 currently for spending, the rest is going for college text books in January. However, I think this is a great thing, and it really makes me want to do something for a similar cause some time. It really reminds me the importance of life and so forth.

Thank you all for your quick and overwhelming generosity!

boatofcar has generously pledged a Gamecube! I have a second controller, still in the package. The donations will go toward a selection of children's Gamecube games, and maybe another controller.

As mentioned, I will definitely have some photos of Christmas over at their house with the kids and the system.

Also ... if everyone who donated could send me a digital picture of yourself (you can e-mail it to robohara@cox.net), I will put together a custom Christmas card for Sandra and her children.

Thank you all again for your warm outpouring of support! It's things like this that make Digital Press such a kick ass place.

Wow, you folks rock - boatofcar especially! I'm in no position right now to be giving away stuff (having gotten myself there) but I at least can thank you folks for being so generous.

Flack, I have 2 third party controllers for Gamecube (pretty good Interact ones) that I'd be glad to donate if you could use them. They're both opened but are in absolutely great condition (only played with once or twice). Let me know if you need them and I'll be glad to ship them out. I was going to send some paypal cash, but other board members have that covered it looks like. PM me or reply here and I'll get them in the mail ASAP.

I wish i could help out. If this came up a few weeks ago i coulda sent out some cash instead of buying some games.
I agree you guys all kick ass and it is nice to see people here are so charitable and actually want to help others.

Yeah. From what my wife told me, they are filing either a wrongful death or a neglegent death lawsuit against her (Sandra's English isn't the best, but that's the way my wife understood it). Apparently their lawyer is claiming that Sandra fell asleep while driving and caused the accident. What a sucky thing to sue your own family.

Yeah, great family there. Woo hoo. Bravo. Obviously the mother involved will suffer more from the loss of her children...talk about adding insult to injury. Her family must have really disliked her to do such a thing. Ridiculous.
