Yes, I'd like to know if anyone else here has invested any time into this amazing game.
(by the way, if you can play Japanese PS2 games, you MUST try Beatmania IIDX)
I have all of the PSOne Beatmania games and kinda just got bored... what makes the PS2 game special? I'm looking for a reason to get back into them again.
I have IIDX 3rd Style sitting on my shelf. And my damned Swap Magic discs are taking WAY too long to get here. Anger... Rage... I've played a bit of fake IIDX using BemaniDX and some PSX to USB adapters and I can do a few 7 stars. I'll just stick to 6th+Core i.e. "IIDX 5 key" until Priority Mail stops being crappy.
Yeh, Beatmania IIDX is definitely a reason to get back into it. Although if you have IIDX your 5-key stuff will probably still sit there and collect dust.Originally Posted by digitalpress
1) IIDX is a LOT more challenging. And it's the good kind of challenge.
2) The quality of the music is so much better it's ridiculous. I can barely stand listening to the old 5-key songs now (Hell Scaper and most of 4th mix being the exceptions)
3) It's one of those nice games where there is no real end to how good you can get. You start with Light-7 (or Beginner), then 7-key, then Another, then the Expert courses....
4) Even if 7 keys is too challenging, IIDX still has a 5-key mode. ^_^
I finally got my 3rd Style yesterday. Played it for about 4 hours...81 songs on the songlist and I've played all of them at least once (yes, even the dregs. Prince on a Star, e-motion, celebrate) I can beat most 5s on Light 7 and most 4s on 7-key....I try to play 1-handed as much as possible....Originally Posted by davidbrit2
Local store had the konami controllers, not to mention para para and stuff. They just never have the games. If they did i prolly would have bought everything already.
I still looking to pick this up, and para para, and guitar freaks before anime central.
My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.
How much would you say the following is worth (all Jap I believe), including one boxed and complete turntable controller?
Beatmania - Append Got Tamix
Beatmania - The Sound Of Tokyo
Beatmania 2nd mix
Beatmania 6th Mix + Core remix
Beatmania Append 3rd Mix
Beatmania Append 5th Mix
Beatmania Append Club Mix
Beatmania Append Gottamix
Beatmania Best Hits
Beatmania featuring Dreams Come True
I'm sure that would sell for well into the three digit range. What kind of controller is it?
Mitsuwa, right? My friend Josh bought their last IIDX 6th Style. ^_^ Para Para is probably still there....nobody wants to buy it because there aren't going to be any new mixes released.Originally Posted by Chunky
Where on Earth did you find all of that? I'm actually looking for a couple of those.Originally Posted by Mayhem
IIDX used to be the only game I played back when my PS2 modchip worked...I guess maybe it's sort of a good thing that it crapped out on me, otherwise I'd probably still devote all my free time to playing it.Originally Posted by Captain Yashiro
I was getting pretty freakish by the end, too. I could pass literally every song in every style on 7-key mode reliably, except for some of the crazier anothers (R5 Another? Holic Another? BLARGFF). I even managed to unlock everything in 6th Style without cheating, something I'm convinced that no one else besides me has ever done. I reeeeally grew to hate Jelly Kiss trying to unlock that last gallery picture, lemme tell you.
And yes, IIDX is indeed rad to the max. The immersive audio/visual presentation, the pure unadulterated test of skill/memory/reflex that it offers, and the near-infinite replayability of every game in the series really create an experience that no other game has ever really duplicated. If you own a Japanese PS2 and you don't already own the IIDX games, then...well, what the hell is wrong with you?
An acquaintance of mine sadly died recently and his best mate (someone I also know) is selling off all his collection (which is HUGE) for the money to his family. He had the official Konami Beatmania turntable controller (boxed and complete) and all those Beatmania games (boxed and complete also). Just wondering what their worth was... said mate is asking about £125 ($190) for the lot... but if you need a couple of them, he may split...Originally Posted by Captain Yashiro
You got it. They still have a konami beatmania controller there new, but it's prolly cheaper somewhere else. but when no ones around you can haggle. I was actually talking to the guy and he goes to japan once every 2-3 months and juct picks stuff up with a huge budget and send it back here. he takes requests and can usualy get it, but the price is crazy. but i think i got once with a deal here or there after correcting some engilsh signs and that he had for him.Originally Posted by Captain Yashiro
now anyways.
If i am to get guirtar freaks, beatmania, parapara for a japanese ps2, what do i want to get what ones are better?
My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.
IIDX: 5th or 6th Style (really they're all good though...)
Guitar Freaks: 3rd (DM 2nd)
Para: There's only one mix
It depends on what you like...
IIDX is definatly the most challenging, para is... fun for some people, and guitar freaks isn't too hard to pick up, but still fun.
And where is their Beatmania Controller? Last time I was at Mitsuwa all they had for bemani was para (I did indeed get the last 6th style there). I was going to buy DDR Max (they had it there for the longest time), but when I went back to get it, it was gone.
If you've got tiny hands like me, you won't even need a special Guitar Freaks controller. Here's the good key config:
Hold the controller backwards, kind of facing away from you. Seriously.
Wrap your left hand fingers around it like with the guitar, and use Circle, X, and Square as R, G, and B respectively. Your right hand uses the left analog stick for picking, and it's amazingly responsive. The left shoulder buttons register Wailing Bonus, so you can pull the controller up into your torso to hit them. All in all, it's almost exactly like playing in the arcade, just at 10% the size. :-)
In the PSX Guitar Freaks games, this is configuration C. And I can do Jet World Extreme+ with ease, so that's proof that it works great. ;-)
@Mayhem: NM, I'll pass....he'll easily sell all that stuff together at the price he's asking.
If you're a complete and utter beginner when it comes to Beatmania, IIDX 5th or 6th is the best, considering they have Drill Mode, and Beginner Mode. Oddly enough, 3rd has the most songs, though.Originally Posted by Chunky
Guitar Freaks...don't bother with the PSX 1st mix (it's only about 14 songs, and the 2nd Append is really hard to find) and 4th mix is usually cheaper (not as rare)
As for which of those 2 you should get first....do you listen to rock or techno, primarily? ^_^
On a side note, I hate Take On Me L7. >![]()
Yashiro, IIDX is awsome. Having no good arcades around me, I can barely play. I only play when I go to a DDR tourney and people bring their stuff. I havent modded my PS2 (or gotten it fixed for that matter) yet. So I cant really play yet.![]()
It's still available to my knowledge... don't know if anyone is a Beatmania freak round these parts!Originally Posted by Captain Yashiro
