Default Will a gold or black Game Genie prematurely wear out a NES' 72 pin connector?

Years ago, I recall my cousin's NES never working quite right after he used his Game Genie in it, and I am also fairly sure I have read online other gamers confirming this. In my combing of DP I have read that the black/purple Game Genie sometimes has thinner connector pins than the gold version that my cousin and now I have. So what does anyone know about this? Are black/purple Game Genie's easier on a NES or is it only certain ones? In the thread (which is specifically about the Top Loader and Game Genie compatibility, by the way) that I linked to there is even one post that says that the gold Game Genie can have a thinner connector pin. Bleh.

    So...

    1) Can Game Genie's wear out a 72 pin connector or was my cousin's experience a fluke?

    2) Is there a thinner connector pin Game Genie, and if so...

    3) how can you tell?
