Cool Contest: DP Writers of 2012 (Due Date: August 10)

The Pitch: Do you like to write about retro gaming and games in general? Are you a prolific penner of prose? Perhaps you just like to type your thoughts about collecting for your favorite consoles. Whatever the case, we have a competition for you!

Prizes: Three first-place winners will each receive a prize from the Digital Press store in New Jersey with a value of up to $30. Two second-place winners will receive a prize from the Digital Press store with a value of up to $20. Prize will be an item of your choice from available stock. In addition, all winners will be invited to write for the future Articles section of the Digital Press Web site.

Contest: We are looking for well-written articles about gaming. Articles about games and consoles older than five years old are preferred, but columns about modern gaming are also acceptable. Entries can be about almost anything to do with gaming as long as they are interesting, accurate, and informative. Minimum of 200 words, maximum of 1000 words. Three entries allowed per entrant. An entrant can win only one prize. Please number each submitted entry. (e.g., If someone submits articles #4 and #5 and you submit yours next, they would be numbered 6, 7, & 8.)

Examples: Interviews with game makers (designers, programmers, artists, developers, journalists, etc.); columns about certain game series of interest (Sonic, Mario, Tales of ..., Final Fantasy, Beatmania, Alex Kidd, etc.); prose about pinball and arcade game collecting; restoring home consoles, handhelds, or other hardware to working order; supporting, interfacing with, and maintaining classic computer hardware and media in modern times; write-ups about new hardware and techniques for transferring games and saves; classic gaming on modern consoles through emulated compilations or remakes and comparisons with the originals; and stories about working in the game industry. Remember that these are just examples, so please feel free to use your imagination to think up more ideas of your own.

Due Date and Judging: Articles are due by the end of the day on August 10th, 2012, and should be submitted to this competition by posting them in this thread. We will open the articles to public voting within the next few days after the submission period. Voting will last for one week. Voters will be registered members of the Digital Press Retrogaming Roundtable. Voters will be allowed to vote for multiple entries.
