So modern gamers, or maybe just people in general, are not only complete fucking idiots, but they're happy to ruin someone elses experience because they're stupid fucks.
So on Reddit someone mentioned are Dragon Quest 1 and 2 a good place to start for Dragon Quest. Now, my response was not starting another Dragon Quest, but if they were to play Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 3, to start at Dragon Quest 1. I avoided spoilers and stated that, if you start at Dragon Quest 3, you are going to ruin the most impactful point of the game. I'll spoil that here because if you're in this thread you've played Dragon Quest 3.
So of course I get 10 plus downvotes and people stating that I'm wrong of course because Square Enix added extra scenes that make it important to play the third game first. First off, whatever fluff Square Enix added, is not going to make a difference and I'll be completely transparent I haven't played Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD yet because I know I can buy it later for cheap. However, wat it cannot change, is that if you play Dragon Quest 3 first, that's it, you've already ruined the impact the third game can have by playing it first, and here's what I mean.
Let's say you play on release order, you don't even have to finish Dragon Quest 1, but if I was to say that outright, then I'd immediately ruin the experience I'm trying not to ruin for people who want the best experience. I myself think the original Dragon Quest isn't a great game but, the music, the graphics, everything about the game is very memorable, most importantly the initial opening where you see Tantegel with the Dragonlord Castle just across the lake. Whether you finish Dragon Quest 1 or not doesn't matter, but assuming you do play through and finish it, let's just fast forward to Dragon Quest 3.
On Dragon Quest 3 the world doesn't look the same, you play through the game and then later there's this pit that you jump into. The music sounds a bit familiar and as you head east you see a castle, you then notice a castle surrounded by poison across the lake. Holy sh-- this is amazing. You not only play through and experience the initial game of Dragon Quest 3 but then you're actually in the world of the original Dragon Quest.
However you're not going to get that same experience if you play Dragon Quest 3 first if you've never played the original. You're going to get to the world of Alefgard and there's going to be no emotional connection to that moment where you first see it. Then once you finish Dragon Quest 3 and move onto Dragon Quest 1 as these stupid fucks keep telling everyone to do, you're still going to be in Alefgard. Everyone who never experienced playing the game in order of release is never going to know what they missed out on because they're never going to consider that moment as anything. And they'll just continue pushing this narrative that Square Enix stated that the best way to play is by playing the Dragon Quest 3, let's not forget that these hypocrites will push this narrative that it must be right because Square Enix said it but literally crucify Square Enix about everything else they say.
That fluff that you're getting in Dragon Quest 1 and 2, that's fucking nothing compared to what you're missing out on by playing Dragon Quest 3 first. People are fucking stupid. Even I'm pretty fucking stupid because I even care that a bunch of fucking idiots are ruining a series of games i don't much care about for other players. The easier option would be to not even bother and of course I did bother so I have like 30-40 downvotes across multiple replies that I'm certain these people messaged their ass buddies that kupomogli posted again and to mass downvote it, and you can't say what is being ruined because you don't want someone who hasn't experienced it to read it but it likely wouldn't even matter to these pieces of shit anyways.
Although tbh, I am actually more interested in playing ,Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD than I ever was to play and complete Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D because it's rare that you get to play a game with a single hero. Defensive attacks seem like they'll be a lot more viable now and the battles against multiple enemies instead of one on one fights seem more interesting. Also, with the characters on Dragon Quest 2 HD 2D being modernized in their mechanics including the brand new fourth character, we may even see a game that's really well balanced compared to Dragon Quest 3 which is pretty unbalanced and really relies on you having a personality that increases speed on every level. Because earlier Dragon Quest in a nutshell is either "you're slower than the enemies and they capsize you," or "you're faster than the enemies and you take more of them out so you have a better chance."
