Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (SNES)

I currently have all 3 Ninja Gaiden NES games; 1 with manual, 2 cart only and 3 mint/complete.

I have a chance to sell them for a fair price and would want to purchase Ninja Gaiden Trilogy.

In doing this am I sacrificing any gameplay elements? Are the controls different? I really want to make an informed decision, but have never played the SNES versions of these games. Can some of you help and make recommendations.

The trilogy is just the three games in one. When the game starts, you just choose which ninja gaiden you want to play. But I would advise that you keep your 3 ninja gaiden nes games, and just buy the snes one as well.

I would also advise that you keep your NES copies. I was never a big fan of the SNES Trilogy. The music isn't as good, and in some cases, even the graphics fail to live up to the NES versions. There's some slight changes in dialog, but not enough to make any real difference.

Stick with the originals... and only buy the SNES Trilogy if you can find it for under $25.

I'm still looking for a copy myself. I have yet to find one in the wild, and I don't want to pay the ebay prices.

I have both the NES games and the SNES carts, and quite honestly I could sleep at night perfectly fine if I'd never bought the SNES cart. It's been awhile so the only major difference that comes to mind is from Ninja Gaiden 2. In the NES ver there's a stage that's totaly dark and only becomes lit when lightening strikes, in the SNES ver of that stage is completely lit constantly. There's various other things that are different, but I don't remember them because it's been so long. Mainly the SNES cart isn't worth the money. You've got the better/true versions of Ninja Gaiden enjoy them and save your money for something more interesting.

I own Ninja Gaiden Trilogy for SNES. I like it. I've never played the originals for NES. If I owned the NES versions I wouldn't really bother with the SNES versions unless I was trying to complete the SNES collection (which I am). Your really not getting a better tranfer, unlike Mario All-stars where its redone games. Its probubly not faster either. I do recommend Ogre Battle on PSX rather than on SNES but thats because the graphics are better and the save fuction is much larger. In addition, I agree with DigitalSpace, the ebay prices are insane, $40-60 just for a cart. You're better off sticking with what you've got.

Trilogy is good for fans or completists only. The NES versions are far superior.

But say someone is going to give $50-70 for the NES games, do it. You'll find them again later at a fraction of that price.

if I recall correctly the snes version had passwords (i think)
the graphics are slightly better, less flicker and slowdown.
they completely changed the music from the nes versions (for the worse in my opinion)

but since it seems you're just looking to make a profit from selling your games but keeping the option to play them, I imagine it woudln't be a terribly bad deal depending on how much you're getting for the nes carts.

The SNES collection wouldn't be that bad if the music didn't seem dull. I remember thinking there was something wrong with my speakers, but then I realised it was the game.

Like already mentioned, the SNES version ruins the third stage/level in Ninja Gaiden 2. Instead of the stage taking place in the night with full visibility only when lightning strikes, the whole stage is 'lit up' constantly. If you've played the original, it's pretty disappointing to see this in the SNES 'Trilogy'. Otherwise, it's otherwise good. Graphical improvements are VERY slight..

I regretted getting rid of my three NES Mario titles to get Super Mario All Stars, assuming I'd never need my old games again. I don't think it (All Stars) is bad by any means, but I won't make the same mistake with Ninja Gaiden Trilogy. If you must get the trilogy, hold onto your originals and trade something else to fund the purchase.

SNES has minimal graphical and sound improvements, but some posters here feel in certain cases it was actually below NES' original quality.

The 1 positive -- passwords.

Since you already own the NES versions, I say don't actively hunt NGT. It usually hits $45+ and is not worth it for someone who already owns the originals.

I have an NES, but opted to get NGT instead of the NES originals. Only because I liked the ability to play it, get a password, turn it off and come back later to the last stage I left off.

Thanks for all your help guys. I am going to keep my originals and pass on NGT for now. I would have profited maybe $20 or so after selling my originals and getting NGT.

Guess I can check NGT off my list as games I want.. I am down to my last SNES game then.. need to find Ogre Battle!
