    Default The Incredible Machine

    Does anyone remember these games by Sierra? Simple graphics, off the wall goals. Precise methods for completion.

    By far some of my favorite PC gaming.

    The only problem I have now is the complete inability to run them. I remember playing 1 and 2. Were more made beyond that? Who's brain child were the Incredible Machine games? Any way to play them on my modern PC?

    There seem to be a number of Sierra fans, enlighten me.
    They call me Ha-do-ken, cause I'm down, right, fierce.

    According to Wikipedia, there are many versions!

    * The Incredible Machine (1993, MS-DOS)
    * The Even More Incredible Machine (1993, MS-DOS)
    * The Incredible Machine 2 (1994, MS-DOS)
    * The Incredible Machine - Version 3.0 (1995, Microsoft Windows)
    * Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions (2000, Microsoft Windows)
    * The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions (2001, Microsoft Windows)

    I know I played the first two listed to death. Incredible.

    Well.. the games are very easy to find online of course (#oldgames on efnet for example). Now whether it can be played on a typical xp machine.. I dont know. I liked these games too.. I think I'll try and snag the first one and give it a shot. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Yep! Took all of a minute to find the game. Then I tried running it on my xp box here... no dice. So, I looked for dosbox, downloaded, then ran it in that. Success in less than 5 minutes

    ...well, at least for the original game. I hear Incredible Machine 3 runs fine in windows as well.

    Oh my god, yes!
    This was also one of my favorite games as a kid. I remember playing it in school every time our teacher would give us "free computer time" in grades 5 or 6.
    I also remember when I graduated from elementary school (finishing grade 6 ), my parents bought me the game as a graduation present.
    Hours upon hours were spent playing this game for me. Just looking at that picture brings back so many memories.

    I want to say I was in about 9th grade when this game came out, and I spent many an hour on it. What a great game. I recall that it had cool music and sound effects as well. I might have to fire up a round of this when I get home.

    I believe it also came out for the 3DO...

    About three and a half years ago, when the factory I was working at was in the process of shutting down, a lot of us were unmotivated and bored. One of my co-workers brought to work a couple Incredible machine games and we spent the next few weeks playing it. I don't remember which versions they were but they were probably "Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions" and "The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions". Whatever they were they worked fine on W2K Pro machines without any DOSBox or other emulators. I think I still have the program files and so I should check to see of they work on Win XP.

    Fun stuff. The very last stage of the very last game was very hard to do and I couldn't figure out how to solve it. So I cheated by searching for the answer on the Internet. I took the opportunity to flaunt my success in front of one of my co-workers - who was very competitive - and, man, was he pissed! Then he found out I cheated! I never heard the end of that.

    Same.

    Really fun brain game. I was introduced to it back around '97 in a general science class. Was fun as hell and everyone would crack away at what seemed a bit complex to us at that age. It was a real treat when it was your turn and continued to see it show up in class rooms until around 2000.

    A few years back I found it and installed it, backing a copy up on a drive as well as to not lose the software. It's been a great game and would be interesting to see a newer release of it, possibly some 3D themes.

    There's a game from Pepper Games called "Crazy Machines" that publicly pays homage to the Incredible Machine series. It's the same kinda stuff updated with a real-time 3D engine, same point of view. Just as fun as the old ones.

    It ships with MAC/PC versions on the disc, found it at Target just last week on clearance for $5. Can't beat that.

    I played one of the newer ones in architecture during high school instead of, you know, actually working.

    Hmm, I know this may not be welcomed here, but Incredible Machine was released for the 3DO system as well and still one of the most popular games for the system. I also can say that the game was initially created by a company called Dynamix. Not sure if they are still around though these days.
