I was always a big fan of the Scott Adam's Graphic Adventures. I enjoyed the mission impossible one. I've got it stored away somewhere, I really should find it.
I thought Mission Impossible was a C=64 platformer?
Ahem. Anyone that doesn't answer "Zork" is gonna get punched in the head.
Seriously, Zork (or "Adventure" as I believe it was originally called WAAAAAY back then) ate more of my time than any other text adventure. Sure, I logged a lot of hours with other Infocom games (Suspect, HHGTTG, Lurking Horror), but Zork was always there.
Others may be the Scott Adams Marvel superhero ones too (Loved The Hulk, because if I wanted to turn into the Hulk, I discovered that all I had to do was type "HIT SELF"!)

Beyond Zork
Tempest
Wow, a top 10 text adventure poll would be nice.
I'd have to vote for
Zork
Planetfall
Sorcerer
Transylvania
Spellcasting 101
Amazon
Alter Ego (Does this Count?)
But if I had to vote for only one I think that I'd have to choose Infocom's Sorcerer
I didn't play a lot of text adventures in the day but I recall enjoying the "Incredible Hulk" text adventure for the C=64.
Also, I have a data-cassette of Mission Imposible for the TI99 but I think you need the "Adventure" cart to play it (not to mention the datasette player) I have the Commodore 1530 dataset unit but I don't think this will work with the TI/99 correct? BTW, it's boxed and close to mint in case someone is interested.
I have been playing the zorks recently. They are still a lot of fun.

With WinFrotz you can play any Infocom text adventure out there. You can even grab the Zorks there thanks to Activision releasing them. It's all FREE!
Have fun.
Sorry, I'm not to sure how to add a hyperlink.
GET OUT OF THE WALLS CHEATER!!!
Now as one who played through both Zork I and Hitchhiker's on the C64, I'd like to say that, while both are very interesting historically, they have certain Myst-like qualities. That is, the puzzles don't make sense. Honestly, who knew to enjoy the poetry without first being told?

I've always been partial to PLANETFALL. The Zorks were fun but they ended up just being too friggin hard for my 10 year old brain :P.. Incidentally, yeah I know about Frotz.. but somehow I prefer playing the Infocom games via AppleWin in fullscreen monochrome green to FULLY get that "feeling" I know so well when playing them. You just can't beat it.
That'll be "Impossible Mission" :POriginally Posted by theaveng
Zorks are pretty much standard entry... III was rock hard...
The Enchanter series was pretty good, but Spellbreaker was almost impossible. I've never seen a game where you could mess something up within the first five minutes, play through the whole game, and be screwed at the end. I can't count the number of times I had to start over after getting 90% of the through that game...
Tempest
1) Zork I
2) The Pawn
3) Zork III (It took me two years to finish this one.. and I loved it!)
4) Guild of Thieves
5) Adventure (Collosal Cave to some)
6) Jinxter
7) Tass Times in Tonetown
8) Beyond Zork
9) Hitchikers guide to the galaxy
10) Spellcasting 101 (very entertaining Graphic/text adventure. one of the last.)
Fear your thoughts because they become your words
Fear your words because they become your actions
Fear your actions because they become your habits
Fear your habits because they become your character
Fear your character because it becomes your destiny

Well personally I loved both The Hobbit and Valhalla both on the Speccy!
Anyone remember these? Perhaps Mayhem as at least 1 of these was on the C64....
Yeah.
Zork.
I never could get into Zork (types in HOLD SHIELD to deflect any shots from Sniderman). I was totally into Hitchhiker's Guide, though, so I'd have to say that is "tops".
I'd love to get ahold of the alpha for Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I wonder if it still exists anymore (maybe Stu Galley still has it on a personal computer)? I read somewhere that they had the surface of Megrathea done, but that's it.

There's no reason to swear at the YoshiM.
>SAY "ZORK ROCKS."
"Zork rocks."
The YoshiM shakes his head. "I never really could get into it," he says.
The YoshiM is here.
The enchanted sword is here.
>GET SWORD.
Taken.
>WALK MENACINGLY OVER TO YOSHIM.
You begin to approach the YoshiM. "What are you going to do with that sword?" he asks.
>RUN THUMB OVER SWORD BLADE TO CHECK SHARPNESS.
You run your thumb over the vorpal blade, severing it immediately. Blood spews from the wound as you bleed to death. You have died.
>DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT
There is no need to swear at the YoshiM.
