How people can be voting GHIII over Rock Band is very baffling to me.

Is it just that many people who think Rock Band's guitar work is too easy?

    I like GH3 better.

I do think that the Guitar is too easy in Rock Band.
I also think the songs in GH3 are better.
I also think the interface in GH3 is better.

That and the Rock Band guitars are shoddy pieces of hardware.

A couple of months ago I never thought I'd say this, but people are voting on Guitar Hero III over Rock Band because GH3 is better. A lot better, even. The guitar on Rock Band is crappy (both the hardware and the actual playing of that instrument, even if you sub a GH guitar) and the karaoke nonsense is embarrassing, so that only leaves the drums, which are good, but don't come close to justifying buying the bundle. The tracklist on GH3 is fantastic (best one on a licensed rhythm game yet), and the gameplay is as solid as ever, with the exception of those crappy boss battles.

Well I diagree. I think the communial experience of Rock Band is totally unparallelled. I never got very good at the guitar, but I have a lot of friends who ARE good and they do gripe that Rock Band's guitar work is way easier and, thus, less rewarding.

I dunno. I play the drums. And I'm pretty darn good at them (top 100 in a dozen songs, top 1000 in all of them) so I'll freely admit I'm a little biased.

But I've never had as much fun with a game as I have Rock Band when we all get together and play at hard levels.

And I'm strange I guess, I like the Rock Band guitar. More than the GH3 one actually (I've got both). I've never had and hardware problems with mine, but they definately exist out there.

Thanks for the good feedback though, it's going quite a way to better understand how the voting's coming out.

I'm curious, for those voting GH III over Rock Band, are you comparing just the base track list or with the DLC included? For me, the base track lists on both are good and seem very evenly matched, but the DLC for Rock Band far outstrips what GH III has offered and makes the overall game that much better. I just checked and with the DLC from this month's OXM and the releases this week, I'm at 99 songs I can choose from. That's a pretty hard to beat amount of gaming goodness!

In all fairness though, I am not that good at either game, so Rock Band being more accessible is huge benefit for me. I have beaten GH III on medium, but the jump to hard is so big that it makes the game more frustrating than fun.

I don't remember where I read it, but some reviewer said that Rock Band is more of a party game about music and GH III is a competitive game about music. I'll stick with the one that's fun to play.

I can tell you right now that drumming is HIGHLY competitive. Very few people can play at the upper echelon yet. I'm 13 songs out from completing expert and I'm already in the top 0.01 - 0.001% of players.

I wish there was band vs band functionality though. Battle of the bands seems like a obvious move. Guess they're saving it for the sequel.

And the RB DLC is amazing. 3 songs a week since launch. That's pretty unrivaled.

I think I mis-represented what I was trying to say. Any game can be competitive and certainly almost all of them are once you reach a certain level of player. The difference between Rock Band and GH III is that GH III was designed as a competitve game (hence the upped difficulty over GH II and all other games of this nature, boss battles, etc) while Rock Band was designed more as a party or social game (Band World Tour).

I will commend you on reaching that far into expert! I'm about halfway through the drum tour on easy and feel like I've accomplished something. Can't say I'll ever be at much more than medium or so, but at least it's fun!

I find GH2 to be much harder than GH3, mainly due to the exceptional ease of hammer ons and pull offs. Except for those few super hard songs (i.e. TTFAF), I think GH3 has a much easier expert career. That's off topic though. Continue on.

I'm just comparing base track lists, not DLC. That is a good point, of course.

I picked GH3. Half the price, better track list, just as fun as Rock Band and more challenging. Easy win in my book.

    Guitar Hero III.

Rock Band is a party game meant to be played with friends. Since I play RB by myself 99% of the time, it really feels like I'm just playing a stripped down version of GH. Difficulty is way too easy and I'm not a big fan of the song selection. The drums are okay but they don't hold my interest like the guitar does, which is the beef of the game. And for singing, I'd rather play the Karaoke Revolution games.

Ouendan 2 is more fun than either Bemani Ripoff #1 or Bemani Ripoff #2.
