Default A list of games on the cover of Nintendo Power (COMPLETE)

I just searched the message board and couldn't find any threads that list the games that appeared on the cover of each issue of Nintendo Power, so here it is. This list was compiled from several web sites:

    Nintendo Power Index on Retromags.com

List of Nintendo Power Covers from TheConsoler.com (Google cache)

Read-a-long with Nintendo Power on Aeropause.com

Nintendo Fun Club News on Tomheroes.com

    Nintendo Power Index - 1987 & 1988 on Retromags.com (Google cache)

Nintendo: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly on I-Mockery.com

Also, thanks to fellow DP members Darkhades, Lendelin, and especially Namzep and Gameboy Color/JSoup for continually posting the latest issues!

I have been creating a checklist for this for a while, but never put up a post about it. Good job bringing peoples attention to it. I am still trying to find the names of each of the characters on each of the covers for issues 177 for my spreadsheet. If you like I can send it to you.

Anyways, thanks for the list! I was never sure how many issues of the fun club there were. Only thing is the the listing for #66 - I don't think they used clay sculptures for that.

    Sorry, I don't. I've never played Crystal Chronicles. I figured you'd know!

I don't know, but I didn't take it seriously. Thanks for sticking up for me though.

You're right about the cover of 66. I removed that note.

Gee, I remember when the games on the covers were finished products that would imminently be in wide release if they weren't already.

Remember the ones that looked like they were photographs of sculptures? Super Mario Bros. 2, Dr. Mario, and SMB3 are the ones that spring readily to mind. No need for that kind of budget anymore, I suppose.

That all changed with issue 66: Donkey Kong Country.

I remember being confused by the cover of issue 1 because Mario's colors were all wrong. I do like the clay sculptures though.

One of the web sites I used to compile the list is awesome. It shows every cover:
    Nintendo Power Index on Retromags.com

We can compare the early covers to the more recent covers. Which ones are better?

Thanks for the list Rob. being a collector of NP, I really appreciate a thread like this. Iam only missing 31 issues, and I'll use this as a checklist.

Also I just received issue 225 in the mail today, it has "Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood" for the DS on the cover.

Heh, even before I scrolled up to see what one that was, I had a feeling it would be Ocarina of Time.

It's kinda weird to thinking I'm getting close to having missed out on 100 issues at this point. Although, considering how the quality went downhill, I'm probably not missing much at all. My last issue is 131, which was when I lost interest and let my subscription run out. I don't think I ever even read that one. It's one of my worst condition issues. I seem to recall having it kicking around my bedroom floor for weeks. :P I guess that shows how little I cared at that point. I'm glad my subscription lasted that long, though, because just two issues prior I had some of my art printed. It's a little embarrassing because the art wasn't so hot, but it's still neat nonetheless. Granted, my art looked like a masterpiece in comparison because they had started to print some horrendous envelope art those days. That's when you really know the magazine was catering to the elementary school age Pokemon fans when all the art looked like it was done by 5-year-olds. But I digress.

I still have the first eight issues to picked up at some point, and when I finally have read everything I own and those eight, I'll probably start looking into getting those later issues. I suppose I should at least finish off the N64 era. I'd kinda like to see the coverage of stuff like Kirby 64, Paper Mario, and Majora's Mask.

I bought a couple of issues after my subscription ran out, so I lost track of what the last issue I bought was. It was definitely before Pokemon and the advertisements, though. It was also when it started to become so much easier to find in my area. For some reason, for the longest time no one seemed to carry it, so for a while it seemed like kind of a big deal that I could go out and just buy whatever issue I wanted.

You're welcome...and thanks for the info about issue 225. I added it to the list.

I had a subscription to Nintendo Power for several years and had a pretty good collection:

2 issues of Nintendo Fun Club:
    issue 6 (April/May 1988) and issue 7 (June/July 1988)

    119 issues of Nintendo Power:
    issue 1, 4-45, 47-69, 92-139, 142-145, and 173

    18 Official Nintendo Player's Guides:
The Official Nintendo Player's Guide (1987), Final Fantasy, Super Mario Bros. 3, Ninja Gaiden II, 4 Player Extra, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Top Secret Passwords, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Star Wars Episode One Racer, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark, Pokemon Trading Card Game, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

I sold all of my video game magazines, player's guides, and comic books on eBay in December 2006.

If you look around torrent sites, there's a torrent that contains all of the player guides, a few of the Fun Club issues and the first 175 or so issues of Nintendo Power. I downloaded and kept most of it - up through the SNES era, that is.

I downloaded that about a year ago. It's a great project and I appreciate all of the time and effort that has been put into it, but a lot of my Nintendo Power issues were in better condition! Most of my issues and guides were perfect. If I hadn't sold them, I would've scanned them and contributed to the project.

I'm not complaining though. It's nice having a digitized collection instead of hundreds of pounds worth of magazines taking up space!

I am looking for a Little League Baseball poster for NES and was wondering if there was anything in any of the Nintendo Power issues.

    Thanks

According to the Retromags.com wiki, Little League Baseball was mentioned in Nintendo Power issue 14. However, the poster in that issue was for Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.
