I've tried both the s-video and composite leads on my video cable, several different inputs on the TV, the composite and s-video passthroughs on my VGA box, and also my LCD monitor that I use with my PC and 360. The best I got was some white diagonal lines fluttering all over the TV when using s-video, and that only happened once.
It also seems like the drive makes a few unusual sounds - there's a subtle groaning that precedes spin-up, and when closing the lid, the motor spins up quickly for a moment, even with no disc inserted. I can't tell if these are new noises, or if it's just my imagination.
I tried popping it open and reseating the power board, but that had no effect. Is it a goner, or is there anything else I should try? It's been boxed up in our garage for at least a couple months, so I'm not really sure what would have killed it.
