for some reason probably because im not susposed to but all the trees i planted in the soft brown dirt circles look like there dying. The flowers in there are doing fine.
Are you not susposed to plant trees in the browns dirt?

It's either that, or you accidentally stepped on the tree after you planted it.

Hey all - few questions... First off, does the furniture "Do" anything, besides sit there? In that, I mean, is there some furniture that is "Better" to have, or is it just about your own personal taste?
Secondly, what about the fruit? Is it something to just bury and/or trade?
Thirdly, I need some letter writing help. I've started my letters with their name - and have included their favorite phrases - but I still got two letters back saying (from Gaston - who's kinda a putz anyway - "Leave me alone") and another saying my letter was too short. Now, obviously(tho' I kinda wish it weren't true ) the animals DON'T really understand what I'm saying - so is there some other key words or phrases that they're "looking for"?
    Thanks much!
    Andrew
My dog is getting worried - Alpo is up to 99 cents a can - that's almost 7 dollars in dog money!

    1) Yep, it's all personal taste. Some stuff, like desks and tables, can be used to save space (since you can put things on top of them) and other pieces are novelty items (push A and it does something stupid) but it's all personal taste.

    2) Just for trading/selling. Foreign fruit gets you more money than native fruit.

    3) Give them a present, that usually works. I do like Chocobokick says and send 1 piece of stationery; They usually give me furniture in return! ^_^

I found a Pitfall that another character buried.
rather than showing a nes when i drop it ,it is a circle with an
exclamation point. Any ideas on what to do?

    thanks

Erm....it's not an NES game (Pitfall is an Atari 2600 game!)

You bury it in the ground, and people can fall into it. I can't think of a use for it, but that's what it does.

    A little to add..
Hey all - few questions... First off, does the furniture "Do" anything, besides sit there? In that, I mean, is there some furniture that is "Better" to have, or is it just about your own personal taste?
To get the most points for your layout, you have to follow a big of feng shui. The key is green items south, yellow items on the west wall, orange on the north, and red on the east.
Some items are unpredictable. Some don't provide any points at all, some are just "special" items that add points wherever they are placed, and some you think go places they actually don't. For example- the "orange box" gives you no points no matter where it is, and the "orange cone" is actually a red item and doesn't go on the orange wall at all.
Also collecting complete themes or sets adds to your score. Having a complete Western set in your living room for example gives you more points then half of it. Some sets like the Green furniture provides a complete set points as well as corresponding to feng shui.

    Hope this helps

    Questions:

    1) Any idea why some townsfolk randomly switch between telling me to piss off, and being all lovely dovey friendly? In the space of a minute :P

    2) I've seen a couple of balls sitting in the town doing nothing. Can't pick them up, but can kick them. Thoughts on what I can do with them?

    3) I've only just started so I might find some things out later but... does Tom Nook sell stationary to write letters? If not, where do I get some from?

    4) I will soon be getting an e-Reader. Can you copy into AC the NES games you can scan in?

    Default answers...well, sort of...

    in reverse order:

    4) you'll see. i'll say this: at some point you'll get an nes in ac (if you're lucky)...

    3) you get stationery as gifts from animals or from to, either by mail order or direct. the neat thing is you can buy any stationery in the game, even if it's from a random letter sent to you. see elsewhere in this forum for letter writin' tips...

    2) you'll get asked for a ball every now and then by an animal. try not to kick it into the water when you're bringing it to the recipient- you won't get it back! you can also kick a ball near an animal and play a bit of kickball with it (until it gets bored about three seconds later, lol)...

    1) it happens. a lot. but some of that is certain animals' personality traits, it seems. some are overly sarcastic, but drop a nice word in after a while, and some are nice to a fault, but then hit you with a mean comment out of the blue. sorta like real-life, huh? get used to it, or just talk to them until they say what you want to hear, and go off and send them a short note with a gift in it. i'm sure they'll work on a few things for the sequel (or expansion, if nintendo just sells an updated memory card with extra data on it...)

You can't copy the e-Reader NES games into Animal Crossing, but there probably will be NES games in the Animal Crossing eCard set (which isn't out yet...*sigh*)

#1: Do you get anything for writing in your Journal/Diary a lot?

#2: If I start a new game on christmas day, will i still get a gift from my mom and others, or do i have to be friends with them?
Somebody once told me to get a life.

I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.

    Okay-
For furniture matching, etc I would HIGHLY suggest buying the Nintendo guide. The blue clock doesn't officially "go" with the green items BUT you can do whatever you want, it's your game!

Gyroids can add a little to HRA score I think, especially in sets. Mainly they exist as something else to collect/make music.

I don't think you get anything for writing in your journal a lot but I could be wrong. I don't do it

You may have to be friends with them to get a lot of items, I had a birthday after playing a few months and got many presents and another character had one only playing about a week and got significantly less. I can't answer for sure though.
