Default DS games from Play Asia shrink-wrapped?

I got two DS games from Play Asia today, Contra 4 and Nanostray 2. However, both games were shrink wrapped instead of having the original Nintendo seal strip (bought them as new). Is that normal for DS games? I haven't bought that many, so I can't remember what kind of packaging they had. I only remembered that other Nintendo system's games had that strip.

As far as I know only European DS games have the Nintendo seal strip on the wrapping. US and Japanese games do not have that strip.

I take it you bought the US versions?

Both Nanostray 2 and Contra 4 (US versions) came with the soft shrink, not the hard Y-folded shrink that a majority of DS games have on them.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Yea, I got the US-versions since both games haven't been released in Europe yet. Do you know why only a part of the DS games are shrink-wrapped like that?

Honestly i've got no clue. I've seen really crappy budget titles get the Y-folded shrink and 'bigger' games (all the Mega Man games, Phoenix Wright, ect) by 'bigger' publishers (Capcom and Konami in particular) get the cling shrinkwrap.

It most likely has something to do with which factory manufactured the game, or the fact that they (Konami, Capcom) are producing more copies and that hard shrink is more expensive and cents add up when you're making thousands and thousands of copies of games that does dig into your profits, and besides most people open their games, what would they care if it was cling vs hard shrink wrapping?

As has been mentioned, it seems to be mostly a Konami Capcom thing. If a game is a Konami / Capcom release, the chances are you won't have the y-fold seal.

I would SWEAR that my local Wal-Mart has Contra 4 in the folded wrap... Does this occasionally vary by retailer or area, or time?
