It uses ultrasound and the PS3 camera. Apparently the controllers can also determine how far they are appart from each other, and they're built in modules that can be recombined.

the only thing with this is the playstation eye needs proper lighting to work right. Almost to the point where you have to move lamps around and whatnot. At least thats what I was experiencing with Eye of Judgment when I played that. Other than that, I'm all for it. If they can make great games that utilize it, I don't care if wii was the first out of the gate with this kinda of thing for games, as long as its fun.
I'd rather not have to have a paripheral set up every time I want to play a game. The Wii sensor bar is very small and unobtrusive (right word?), which is nice. This thing would have to work really damn well for me to bite.
Ultrasound? Is that like a dog whistle?
last sound based motion controller i can think of had a history of being.... inaccurate...

Dude, I want my motion stuff with a headset for my vr action i was promised in the early 90's
Any mod want to change the thread title to Playstation Move?
Anyways, the new name is stupid(though it's not really new as it's been called that a few weeks now.) I liked the Playstation Arc better. Atleast move is four letters so it can be found in the search engine :P.
Anyways. New commercial is good. Not as good as the other PS3 commercials, but the jabs it takes at Natal and the Wii are pretty funny(though I'm somewhat interested in Natal.)

*edit*
Also. Commercial is a little inconsistent. States we all eat our food through straws and at 1:16 there is food on the table.
I swear, the controller looks like a fairy wand!

It does look stupid(very stupid) but more than likely it's better looking like that than a small piece on the front of the controller to where it loses connection much easier. Think of how much the Wii loses connection with the standard Wiimote if the front sensor isn't in line with the capture device.
There's only one game I'm interested with the Move and I was going to get the game anyways(Resident Evil 5 Gold.) I doubt it'll have many good games, so while I'll be getting it, it's more than likely going to be quite some time(price drops or clearance is likely.)
Atleast there is one good thing about it. Some games for the Wii that I may be interested in will probaby be built as multi console titles for the PS3 and Wii since the PS3 Move is the exact same thing. Won't need to purchase a Wii in that case.
here i thought they patented the technique where if you put your hands in your pockets, sony automatically charges your credit card
Natal looks a lot more interesting - this is just a goofier looking Wii controller rather than a rethink of full-motion control. This is just another case of Sony throwing more money and horsepower behind a dead horse concept rather than trying to pioneer any sort of worthwhile innovation.
"Enduro" is a symbolic journey through life via the media of a race.

I'll buy it eventually. After playing RE4 Wii Edition, RE5's controls didn't do it for me. I have zero interest in Natal, which doesn't look very useful at all.
IS IT FUCKING POSSIBLE FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO SIT DOWN AND PLAY A GAME WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE I'M HAVING A FUCKING SEIZURE?
At least it's a mid-cycle add-on rather than something that's standard with all PS3s, so if you don't like it, you don't have to deal with it.
I don't much care for the Wii style motion control or the augmented reality stuff personally, but from a technical standpoint, Sony has done a fairly good job with both.
