I thought CD-I part 3 was pretty mediocre.

Good lord, the cold opening was the best part. The look for utter horror on his face is priceless.
Oh, and F-bombs! Horray!
I thought the video was good. Unfortunately, the CD-I was such a hopelessly boring and horrendous system, it was difficult to make fun of. I played it once in my life, at Sears, and was aghast by how bad it was. Granted digitized games were kind of the fad then, and most of them were horrible, but this thing took the cake.

I saw it at CompUSA when it was new. I almost bought one.

I wrote this to James on his Cinemassacre site
James I am going to be totally honest with you. You need to step away from the nerd for a while and do some other stuff. I would suggest a six month break just to be able to focus on some other projects outside of the time it takes to do the nerd videos.
It is obvious that your being pushed in alot of directions with the nerd character that your not comfortable with anymore. You also are having to live up to the hype from the nerd and your expected to perform on this high level every single video. I understand where your at as a filmmaker.
The last great video you did was the Nintendo Power Video, after that your work started to decline and it seemed like you were just pushing a time clock with the videos after that. You improved with the Dick Tracy one, but then started taking shortcuts in your videos again. I think anyone would grow weary of having to do the same damn thing over and over again and even twice a month so I don’t judge your harshly. I just want to be honest with you and not kiss your ass like some people.
I thought your batathon stuff was great and the transformer cartoon movie are two of the kinda of stuff that your really good in outside of the nerd. Focusing on nostalgia based stuff that isn’t only video games are strong points of your style.
take a break man and come back to the nerd when your ready.
Best Wishes
Let us know if he responds back.
I was going to add that he might need to turn the Nerd thing into a "specials" type of thing were we get like a 30 or 45 minute episode every 3 months with a different theme once he takes his break. "The Worst of the Worst NES games" could be a possible theme that could work well in a 30 to 45 minute spot. He could spend like 5 minutes reviewing each horrible game and it could really work well if executed right and knowing the nerd; it probably would be.
He should just let his current stuff go into syndication, take his break and come back stronger than ever. By that time the slate will be clean and his stuff can once again be fresh. He is burned out, plain and simple
I think it's funny that people think they know what other people should do with thier own careers! If you stay out of the public eye for too long, you'll be forgotten. I think his videos are great! If you don't like them, then don't watch them.
I sometimes like AVGN videos, but he was at his best when he was less angry and more informative. Now he seems to be swearing and using an angry voice too much, and it feels forced.
I still watch, but I'd take Nostalgia Critic and Spoony over him.
Considering how much of a relief Zelda's Adventure looks compared to the other two games I can't really blame him for part 3 being a bit awkward. I don't think he's trying to "overhype" his character or anything, he probably just had a harder time finding the certain flaws of that game and it fell flat.
And don't bring up that stupid girlie Aladdin rip off! Shantea?
I had no problem with the three-part series, except that he should have reviewed a few more games CD-i games besides the Zelda's and Hotel Mario. No matter though, I liked it.
If you like the CDi review check out Halfblindgamer, he reviews other games on the CDi and finds one that is actually really really good.

I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy whatever he shoots out. I can sense he is trying to please everyone...fuck that, he needs to please himself. Otherwise the 'magic' starts to fizzle. Spider-Man, Double Vision (BETTER version of the song than the original imo), Battletoads, Batman...those are some fun episodes. I just re-discovered his Ghostbusters trilogy and it was pretty damn fun to watch.
Of course...nothing tops the TMNT video.

WTF is a Dim-Mac?!?!?
I really liked the cd-i series, but I'd prefer if he did another episode in which he quickly reviewed a bunch of different games.
Also, he should have started with Zelda's Adventure and then did the other two. Sure, it would be out of order chronologically, but it would have been a better progression.
Nerd fans nitpick AVGN more then Trekkies nitpick Star Trek.
