Having picked up quite a few consoles over the summer, I'd like to take them apart and give them a good solid detailing to original state. What are the best methods for doing this? Best cleaning tools?

Old toothbrush, hot soapy water, and most importantly...
Disassembly! Get the plastic covers off, and even plastic bases. Once off, they can go into the sink, and that's when you can do a good cleaning for real. Make sure they dry before re-assembly though.
I'd like to read people's inputs on the best way to get a nice finish on plastic, and so on.
I'm thinking about having some black vinyl dust covers made for all of my consoles....

Cool, that's pretty much what I'd thought. I have some DIRTY consoles (wtf do people do, decide they don't want to play the snes so they carry it around in their anus for a year?) that I've picked up. I just ordered a security toolkit from Electric Quarter so I should be good to go... let's see just how clean I can get these systems.

I guess it's a no brainer that Armoral could be used on the textured plastic you find on Atari 2600s, I'll mention it anyway.
Eh, I don't want the thing looking shiny and greasy, I want it looking new. If I want shiny and greasy I'll rub a pizza on it.

I've tried STP Son of a Gun on one of my systems I was cleaning just cause my roomie had left it in the same room as me. Worked pretty good, to give it that like-new-lustre.
I had posted a poll in the collecting forum about "polishes"
The post is here
I heard that when John Wayne died, they found fifty pounds of SNES consoles in his colon.
And I remember when my 2600 was new. *waves cane* It was pretty damn lustrous.
