I'm planning on having a classic gaming get together sometime in the future and would like to pick up some of the best 2 player (preferably vs) games for the original gameboy. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

tetris!
Autobots. Roll out.
Faceball 2000, perhaps?
I'd like to say Yoshi's Cookie, but there are other ways to play that. And that's a good question, actually: are you looking for sort-of GB exclusives?

yeah, i would say tetris too. Only GB? Oh c'mon! Every classic gaming needs some mario kart! :P
Not necessarily, just some fun choices.
Well, I'll have several different systems and a Mame cabinet as well. It's just that I have 2 gameboys and a link cable but no 2 player games, not 2 of the same game at least...I just thought that 2 player GB would be a fun option since I already have the systems and all. The games seem to be cheap and easy to get at my local game store but since I'd need 2 of each I didn't want to end up with a bunch of crap times 2.
And, I'll have Tetris for sure.

You have one heck of a local game store, then. Perhaps you should double-check on the selection there.
I dimly recall that Revenge of the Gator is supposed to be kind of fun in two-player mode, and apparently Space Invaders is pretty good too.
These also come to mind, but I'm really not sure about a lot of them. Perhaps you should try them in 1-player mode on an emulator first.
Titus the Fox
Go Go Tank
The Hunt for Red October
Radar Mission (specifically the action game component, not the Battleship clone)

Did I mention Tetris?
What is this Tetris I keep hearing about??? Seriously though, does 2 players really add a lot to it to make it the definitive 2 player Gameboy game...or is that just the one most people have played since everyone had it? It's like Puyo Puyo where you send junk to the other players screen right?
I'm certainly going to pick up another copy. And thanks for the other suggestions as well, I'll be sure to check them all out.

Dr. Mario is right up there with Tetris.
Super R.C. Pro-Am would be my top pick. It's classic NES style R.C. Pro-Am, supports up to four players (with the four player adapter) and is an outstanding on the go game. I'd also toss F-1 Race in there as well. It's kind of like Pole Position on the Game Boy and also supports four players.
Pokemon!
