You've got a few options. I recommend ZDoom - it's flexible, but still retains the overall look-and-feel of the original games. My mistake, I didn't mean to imply that Hexen wasn't working for me, just including it in the list of games I've picked up lately. Thankfully it did install and run pretty easily, because I'm on family vacation right now and I need something to keep me occupied while not at the beach.
