Both of you have misguided views about the games. To DDCecil. You play as Christopher, Simon's great grandfather, not Simon.

Then to Pantechnicon. You're talking about Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge. You fight Soleiyu Belmont in that game, not on the original Castlevania Adventure. Other than that, Soleiyu is easy and CV2: BR is an amazing game. However, you'd probably be turned away from Stage 3 of Castlevania Adventure, a part most people have never passed.

Belmont's Revenge is a great game, even by standards of the NES Castlevania games. Canonically, it's truer to Castlevania than the actual Castlevania 2, and IMO a better game.

Not perfect, but pretty good. Who in the world would've thought this game would've resurfaced?
Loved it on Intellivision. Bought the GB version for cheap, didn't much like it. I vaguely remember something in GB where you pick up diamonds and they let you fight back, at which point it becomes a little TOO much of a Pac-Man knockoff.

    1. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (B&W ver. is better)
    2. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
    3. Kirby's Dream Land 2
    4. Final Fantasy Adventure
    5. Donkey Kong '94

Honorable mention: Gradius: The Interstellar Assault

There are lots more good Game Boy games, the system has a huge library, but those are my favorites... though if the list was longer, there are definitely plenty more deserving games.

Looks like my previous post in this topic was among my first posts on this board. Since then, I've beaten almost every b/w and color Game Boy game I own, which I'd claim makes me more qualified to talk about Game Boy, but it's still a tiny drop in the bucket compared to the entire Game Boy library. At the very least, it's the best completion percentage I have for any system I own.

I did eventually beat Castlevania: Belmont's Revenge and Aladdin and both are still deserving of the respective spots I gave them. I still like Castlevania Adventure too, but I think I was a little too kind to Legends. Definitely doesn't belong on a "Good" list at least.

I should've added Kirby's Block Ball to Pinball Land. That's a great little twist on Breakout. Oddly enough, I still haven't played any of the normal Kirby games on Game Boy yet.

    Some more additions:

    Good:

Pop'n TwinBee - Only came out in Japan and Europe, and while it pales in comparison to most of the other TwinBee games, it's easily among the best Game Boy shmups. I've been known to beat this game 3 or 4 times in a row to kill time.

Legend of The River King - Unusual little fishing RPG.

Mario Golf - Great quality golfing plus RPG-like interaction. Pretty neat, and it's got a nice Sakuraba soundtrack too.

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge & Mega Man Xtreme - Not as good as their console counterparts, but still fun stuff. Mega Man II was a downgrade, hence the omission, but I still need to try III-V. Maybe in another 5 years. :P

Pokemon Pinball - Aiming for all 151 made me want to kill myself early on, but as I improved at the game, it became a very satisfying experience. More entertaining than Pokemon Red/Blue even.

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 - SML 1 and 2 are reasonably fun games, but far from stellar. Now Wario Land, THIS is where the series got awesome. Wario Land II was really good too and I give it credit for the clever "no death" system, but my tastes prefer the more traditional style of platformer design as seen in the first Wario Land and the Virtual Boy Wario Land. In the end, though, all four are worth playing, and I look forward to playing the later Wario Land games someday.

    Bad:

Magi Nation - Can someone explain why this game has such a big cult following? The battle system is broken, the graphics are ugly, and the music literally sounds like the game is laughing at you.

Metal Walker - Promising with its weird pool-style battle system, but it got REALLY boring. Every place looks exactly the same, there's no real plot to give it any sense of cohesion, so it degrades to wandering to find some essential items and eventually getting to the end of the game.

Lesson learned? Stay away from "me too" Pokemon wannabes. :P

Here's my 5 personal favorite Game Boy games:

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
    Pokemon
    Metroid II: Return of Samus
Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
Mega Man 4 (I felt this was the best of the Game Boy Mega Man games).

Forgot to post a list in here. Here's a few lesser-examined titles.

Warlocked: Now here's an interesting one. It's an RTS. For GBC. Good or bad? Surprisingly, good. It feels like a well-done console port of a PC RTS, except it was built from the ground up. It's got the fantasy style, like the Warcraft series.

Toki-Tori: A really fun puzzle-platformer which was remade for WiiWare not too long ago. Released in 2001, it was a true showcase of GBC's power. Its mechanics and visuals rival GBA games even.
