Default Genesis and 2600 av mods

Can anyone point me to some step by step directions on modding these two consoles, or recommend someone who can do them for me at a reasonable price?

You can buy standard composite video cables for both the model 1 and model 2 sega genesis, so unless you want something better, there's no need to mod it.

For the 2600, check this guy out. http://www.longhornengineer.com/

As for the Genesis, the only reason to do an A/V mod is to add an s-video connector. Or to outright avoid searching for one of the A/V composite cables they sold for them. A little bit of hunting should find you a cable for your model.

I didn't know that there was a cable for the Genesis. I just bought my first one and all it came with was an RF switch. Thanks for the help!

In the future, you may want to add s-video to your Genesis. I had mine done, and the improvement was a lot more that I could have ever imagine. It makes the lines a lot less smudgy than with the A/V cable.

Usually you may be able to locate an S-video modded Genesis from someone and buy, and in uncommon instances you'll find s-video modded atari 2600 systems. But both tend to be pricey.

They are correct, and what they didn't tell you is youll also go blind, eventually develop depression, and die of super cancer if you keep with the RF and dont get sum s-video.

Here you go, you can see the difference between s-video and composite quality here. RF is even worse then composite, so this should let you know how much you will be suffering.

He was obviously interested in improving the signal a little bit, or he would not have made a thread asking about modding.
