Default One or Two Button "Modern" Games

I keep using the same analogies and I'm getting tired of hearing and seeing my same old references. When people ask me "are there any games on PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast or GameCube that really only require one (like Atari) or two (like NES) buttons and the directional?". You know, the simple ones.

I always go back to the same three examples.

    Virtua Tennis (and 2k2).
    Beach Spikers Volleyball.
    Mr. Driller.

I *could* sit here and think about it, maybe even pore over some game lists, but let's make it "interactive"... do any other modern era games with this simple control setup spring to mind?

The only ones I can think of are for the GBA, like Pokemon Ruby. But I guess you CAN play Super Smash Brothers with only 2 buttons.

    Any version of Tetris.
    Bust a Move 2

Probably puzzle games will be the majority in the modern one /two button games. Maybe fishing games, I only played my Bassmasters 64 cart I got for a bit, but I think it was one or two buttons.

Oops, I listed only N64 games... that's the most modern system I have right now. Maybe some version of these is on the new systems.

Now are we looking at games that are locked down to few buttons or can be PLAYED with only a few buttons?

APEX on Xbox really only needs the triggers and the left stick to race. The menus are all A's and B's with the pad and stick to select. Pretty much any racing game only needs one or two buttons unless you want to get into shifting.

Mario Golf can pretty much be played using just the A button and maybe the others to switch views and such.

Fact is, most games are designed to usually make logical and ample use of available buttons. If the games never used them, they wouldn't be there.

Actually, Madden games can be played with one button if you select the EAsy Play option. You push one button to snap, the same button again to bring up the passing symbols, the same button again to throw, the same button to run.....get the point?

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball only uses 2 buttons, and for people that haven't played this game I strongly suggest you do. It's a very unique gaming experience, simple, yet complicated.

The difficulty ramps up beautifully in this game. Just when you think you're doing good the AI teaches you a new lesson, and the best thing about it is, it isn't impossible, just really, really deep. It keeps you on your toes, and makes you keep it real! You get in that "fuzzy" zone, where you just have to feel the play out. I get into a zin like trance with this game.

I love this f'ing game really I do, and the boobs ain't got nothing to do with it "except to distract you, HAHA!". It's just a damn good game. Too bad they didn't make it 4 player, or co-op.

State of Emergency only uses one or two buttons. I was able to get someone to play this who was "afraid" of the PS2 controller (too many buttons).

Ikaruga makes it, since the 'C' button is the same as pressing A+B together. I'm pretty sure the arcade original only had 2 buttons.

Devil Dice and Bombastic use only the directional pad for play (except the Jumbo mode that uses two buttons).
