Earliest game I can think of is Bakutoushi Patton-Kun, for Famicom Disk System. The swearing was more like a dialog screen of Engrish, but still (hilarious) swearing.
Anything earlier than that?

The first game I recall having profanity in it is Final Fantasy VII, courtesy of Barrett. The first game I heard with spoken profanity is Kingpin: Life Of Crime on the PC. The first game that implied profanity, of course, is Q*bert. Not sure which game was the first to feature either of the two most popular 4-letter words.
Didn't we just have one of these threads?
Anyway mines FF7.

"Download" for the Turbo Grafx 16 has four letter words in it. I was surprised when I saw that, being the time period it was in, was just not what you would think.
Maybe in a text adventure? The obvious candidate I thought of for four-letter words was 1981's Softporn Adventure. I haven't played that all the way through and am not sure, but I think it accepts a certain four-letter action verb.

Both Dragon and Shining Force III make use of 'bastard' several times.
I reject your reality and substitute it for one of my own!
Has any game ever used the word c*nt in dialog or text?
Just wondering, since it always comes top of the list for radio presenters of most offensive word that can be broadcast (in UK at least).
Surely someone has put it out there in this 'shock for publicity' culture we live in?
Has anyone played the Genesis game Ex-Mutants (not to be confused with X-Men)? One of the characters you play as shouts "Die scumbag!" when you kill bosses.

I seem to remember the Sega CD version of Lunar 2 using the word 'hell' a number of times.
"Hell", "Scumbag"...Seriously? What pampered, white bread suburb are you people from?
Master D says "damn" in Bionic Commando. I know that isn't really profane, but Nintendo of America was really crazy with censorship back then. Hell, they still are!

Hell, yeah that's considered swearing where I am. But scumbag?? Where is that a swear?
The earliest I can think of that had "serious" swearing (F-bombs, etc) was the first GTA. First I remember anyways.
