    Default Classic Gaming Tournament Ideas

    HEY!

OK, I am planning on having a classic gaming tournament with my bros. What games/format for multiple games do you guys suggest? Factors
    (1) games are popular, and can be scored easily.
(2)there should be at least one good representative of each game type: fighting, racing, platform, etc.
    (3) each match should be FUN with a high intensity.

Here are some preliminary ideas I've been thinking about.

    Point System
For each event, points are added to an individual's total score. For a 10 player event, 2-4 players will take turns competing simultaneously to achieve points during their match.

The top two scores battle head to head in finals.

    Playoffs

    Round 1

    NBA JAM (Genesis)
    For each 4-player match,
Winning team get one point added to each individual's score

    Street Fighter 2 (SNES)
    For each 2 player match,
    Winner gets one point.

    Round 2

Off Road (NES) [or Micro Machines Tournament 96' (Genesis)]
    For each 4 player race,
    First place gets 2 points
    Second place gets 1 point

Bomberman (Dreamcast) [or some other platformer, any suggestions?]
    For each 4 player match,
    First place gets 2 points.
    Second place gets 1 point.

    Round 3

    Super Smash Bros. (N64)
    For each 4 player match,
    1st place gets 3 points
    2nd place gets 2 points

    Finals

The two players with the highest scores compete.

    Pong (Atari)
Winner of two out of three wins all.

Do you guys have any suggestions for games or scoring methods? Thanks!

All those systems but the N64 and Dreamcast can be played online with little to no lag with a good connections(or atleast I think N64 and DC have no online emulators.)
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

That's interesting. But this would be live, in person, tournament.

Nevermind that set-up, you should go random.

I did a tournament with four guys not too long ago. Any game for any system was fair. Either needed to be head to head, or have a score feature, and needed to be playable in 3 minutes (single) or 5 minutes (multiple at once).

Everyone picked 10 games, we threw all 40 in a hat, and picked 10. Each person guaranteed 2 games, 2 people got 3.

Ended up playing: Hang-On (SMS), Double Dragon (SMS), Ghouls and Ghost (PS3 Capcom Collection), Off Road (NES), Bomberman (TG16), Golf (Famicom), Battletoads (NES - had to fight vs style), Geometry Wars (xbox 360), Rock Band (xbox 360).

Not a huge fan of all the picks, but that's what makes it tough. My games were Hang-On and Geometry Wars.

Score was 3 points first in each game, 2 second, 1 third, zero last. PS - I won with 20 points.
