Been poking around the web for a few hours with no luck on finding an answer to this question.
I recently purchased a great condition Coleco Donkey Kong table-top game.
Based on the French surrounding the button (Mise Au Jeu/Sautez instead of Jump/Start) I assume that this was a French release of the game.
From my memory, everything plays the same as the US version except for one difference that I need to confirm ...
... instead of a red Hammer, on the 3rd tier of the construction it appears that there's a yellow shoe (rounding out pauline's items: Purse, Parasol, Shoe and Hat)...I assume this is a variation on the US model, or a revision on the first release of the game which has the (non-functional 200 point scoring) hammer on that level ... pehaps there was some "confusion" caused by the fact that the hammer essentially did nothing but net you 200 points (unlike the genuine arcade version where it was an offensive weapon) ... so Coleco decided to just make it another of Pauline's items and stop frustrating/confusing gamers who didn't know any better.
So, can anybody confirm that what I'm seeing on my unit is in fact a revision where they replaced the hammer?
I don't think that it's burnt out or distorted LED as I've found pictures of the "shoe" online ...
here's one with the red hammer:
and here's one with the shoe in that LED's position:
I'm pretty sure my estimation is logical ... just looking for some definitive confirmation.
