Default Lords of Thunder Soundtrack Turbo Duo vs. Sega CD

    LORDS OF THUNDER

As you may or may not know, both of these games basically had the same music tracks but were slightly altered a bit. Some people like the clearness of the Turbo CD version and some people prefer the sound of the Sega CD version due to the "live" sound and a small amount of extra instruments mixed in.

Of course the Turbo CD version has slightly better graphics due to the more colors available, but that's not what this is about. This is only about the soundtrack.

Which one do you prefer? I think they both sound excellent, but honestly I lean towards the Turbo version. To me the guitar is more pronounced and a bit more noticeable. Of course that's just a matter of preference.

If you have never heard the Lords of Thunder soundtrack I *HIGHLY* recommend playing it at least for the soundtrack ; although the game is pretty bad ass too if you are into shooters!

For reference, here are are the two different versions on Youtube if you have not ever heard the songs before.

I always preferred the Turbografx version.

They are both excellent, but the Turbo version wins hands down. It has shit tons of reverb on the drums and the guitars just sound more metalish.
If a god is willing to prevent evil, but not able, then he is not omnipotent. If he is able, but not willing, then he must be malevolent. If he is both willing and able, then why is there evil? If he is neither able or willing then why call him a god?

Man, thanks for putting those two links. That's my fav tune in the entire game!

I loved the organ/church portion in the Sega CD version. Love both version too.

A remake of this game, if not a continuation, should be in order!

While the Sega CD version still sounds good, I, too, vote for the Turbo one. Everything about just sounds more aggressive than the Sega CD one...

This man speaks the truth. The Sega-CD soundtrack feels like they took the edge off. Even though the difference is around 2 years, perhaps the technology had improved the point where the developers (composers) thought it best to clean up the SCD version, which is a bit of a shame since the original was good enough. It sounds good but the same effect on TG16 is lost. In the case of Bosque however the solo-riff at ~1:49 is different between the two versions. Hard to say but they both are quite good with perhaps the favour leading towards SCD, but that's just one part not the sum of all.

I never had either but from the clips the sega one sounds more "garage". I kinda dig that...

    ...but the turbo one wins.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about the arcade feel.

One thing I have to give the Sega CD version is that it sounds more "complex", it's like the artists were trying to be a bit more artistic in their approach. As awesome as it sounds though, the simplicity of the Super CD version sounds better I think.

If the Super CD version never existed, I would still think the sound track was amazing on the Sega CD.

I actually enjoy both versions of the soundtrack. The Sega CD version always sounded more like Power Metal and always makes me think of Blind Guardian with how it sounds. I kinda get a slight Thrash Metal vibe from the original Super CD version. I can't decide on which one is better though, I love them both.

I think the SCD version works a bit better in-game, the roughness of the TG version is distracting. They're both great, but more people probably played the TG version first and will vote for it, so I'll go SCD for this one.

Not me. I caught that tallarico-ism right off the bat

Probably true. I played the TCD (can't use SCD abbreviation here because people will think it means SegaCD instead of SuperCD) version first. Not just the music, but the game as well. TurboCD > SegaCD for music.

    NFG: Elephants are so unpredictable.
Tom: Especially in groups of three.
NFG: Two pairs of three, no less.

I Voted for the Sega CD version. It has a more balanced and thicker sound to me. I really don't like the distortion in the TCD version not enoiugh gain on the rythem and too much treble on the leads. Plus if your a bass player the Sega Cd has an awesome slap bass solo were the TCD version is really simple

Sega CD Auzal at the begining and 2:52 slap bass
    http://www.youtube.com/user/HubertsC.../6/8rmIaKM6YaM

Turbo CD Auzal at the begining and 2:54 slap bass
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyvdraPERr8

I do like the harmonic hit in the Turbo cd version on the second bass solo, but overall prefer the Sega CD one especially with the wammy dive done in the middle of the solo by the guitar.

The TCD version had a good sound, but it's a little too rough, whereas the Sega CD soundtrack is cleaner and more even.
