And all the naysayers said it wouldn't happen. They wouldn't listen to the argument of "they aren't going to release VI immediately after XI".
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them
Not so ridiculous, as Square Enix had the game translated for the different European markets, not just in English. I've played both DQIV and V (North American releases) and my DS is set to French, and I can say that the French translation for both games is perfect. I can't judge of the quality for the other languages (other than English), but I could imagine that it is one of the main factors in release delays, aside from some strategic planning from Square Enix.
Yay!!! This is excellent. Finally the Dragon Quest arc is going to be complete in our region. And just in time. I now have a job so I can get complete copies of all these handheld Dragon Quests starting with the couple of Game Boy Color games I never did end up buying full boxes for.
The Nintendo DS has so many RPGs I want. It's too bad they hadn't held off till the Game Boy Advance to re-release Dragon Warrior I, II & III. 8-bit to practically 64-bit is a big jump when playing through a series and you can't play GBC carts on a DS, but the GBC versions are still a bit easier to handle than the NES versions. I'll probably just use my Gamecube to play the GBC games.
I might wait to see if there's a sale at Kmart or Amazon. If I don't see one within a couple months I'll buy it full price. After having a hard time finding a new DQ5 because they went out of print, I'll make sure to pick this up early.
This is another one that I REALLY want to pick up, but my backlog is preventing me. I might make an exception for DQ6...
It couldn't be that it was more hard to find in general than you mean it was harder to find just at a decent price, right? Isn't there always some on ebay and Amazon as long as the price is high enough? In that case it's not the game that's as rare, but the reasonable deal that's rare. I plan on getting Dragon Quest V when I get to that actual game. I'll probably just go for a CIB copy though, not a brand new one especially since I was going to open it anyway.
Preorder at Gamestop for a slime plush. Now the only thing to worry about is the size of the slime. Is it a decent size worth the preorder? Maybe a website will give details.

It's tiny. I will never understand why grown men get excited about plushes as pre-order incentives. Like all stuffed things, they get dusty and attract dust mites and other vermin and fall apart over time. Save your money and wait for the inevitable sale prices and incentives (free gift cards, credits, etc...) like IX got within mere weeks of release. This is also Nintendo published, so there is little chance this will be in short supply.
im so on it...been playing dragon warrior...o sorry quest since first one came out on the nes. my fav roleplaying series.
great news
now the question is
will we see DQ 1/2/3?
will we see DQ VII?
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

1-3 together on a card would rule and I've been saying so for a couple years now.
They could use the 4-6 engine, and lots of the art from them too. 1 would be pretty simple/quick, and would give you some parts to reuse in 2 and 3 too. I think it could happen quickly enough to make it within the DS's lifespan, just if they'll do it or not. I doubt it'll happen for 7.
Heck I'm still playing Dragon Quest 9 since September.

No thats only part of the 'issue'. The PSOne 3D engine is a bit different than what the DS '3D' engine can handle. The whole game would need major reworking, something it won't get before the 3DS is the big boy on the block. Besides, even w/o the CG, I think DQ VII is just too big for a single DS cart.

throughout gaming history, developers have attempted far crazier shoehorns (dreamcast games on the gba for instance). if the will is there to make a game, obstacles will be overcome and it will be made.
if DQ VII is not released on the DS, it wont be a matter of 'cant do', it will be a matter of 'cant sell'
how well have the other DQ games on the DS sold? Nintendo published DQIX themselves, did the extra marketing push result in sales numbers breaking through the niche RPG market?
the 3DS will not be the big boy on the block right after launch, it will take at least a year of brisk sales before the DS can be put to bed, and that is assuming sales will be brisk...(side note, can DQVIII be rereleased on the 3DS?)
