i am guessing they are rare? i have been looking for either one (both actually) complete and run across nothing.

I'm guessing that all of the Konami DOS ports (Metal Gear, Castlevania, Contra, Life Force, etc.) are pretty desirable, even though the port quality is way below even NES standards (from what I remember anyways). I'm guessing that you could find them in the ballpark of around $20-25 complete.
As for the C64 version, I'm never knew one existed, but I looked it up, and hey, there you go. I'm not sure about the rarity/value of it, but as with anything Metal Gear related, it probably comes at a premium.

There are reports that the DOS version of Metal Gear is an unfinishable, buggy piece of crap - but of course it is unknown whether this only applies to the downloadable copy floating about the Internet.

It sucks by the way. and the music is retarded
Can anyone find video footage of this game in action? My search on youtube was fruitless.

Moron.
I didn't know the purpose of games was to be collected and not played. And how fitting that you so "respect" the integrity of games like these by "collecting" them: horrible piece of shit ports of the NES version of Metal Gear. You might as well take your dung into a plastic container, air-tight seal it as "collection" from now on.
I think that was unnecessarily violent and ignorant. Many people collect things that have other uses. Just a basic example is stamps... Whats the point to collecting stamps if you're not going to use them to mail letters? Because people like to collect things. It's no different with games.

Because all stamps actually hold value.
I suppose there are some valuable stamps that might hold value for those fortunate enough to possess them, but I think the overwhelming majority of stamps are in fact of little to no value. But if you have further advanced knowledge of stamp collecting, I would hardly be averse to learning more.

^^ Exactly what I was thinking.
Even still this opens up another topic which asks "why are you collecting?" So it's ok to add a really valuable game to your collection but not play it because it's bad, as long as the game has this monetary value?
Sorry I'm just not seeing your logic.

Isn't this a website that focuses not only on playing game but collecting them?
Yes. jacquestrap isn't a representative of the forum as a whole.
Which is to say, he's being a dick for no reason, while most of us have our reasons to be dicks.
If the OP wants the game because he collects stuff? Cool. If he wants to play it? Cool. Who cares, really?
What a bunch of buttsex.
