    Default Pix'n Love Publishing

I know many people love reading about the history of videogames. French publisher Pix'n Love is now releasing its books in English, starting with The History of Nintendo vol. 1 (covering the pre-console era, including toys and Pong units). Upcoming releases are The History of Nintendo vol. 2 (covering the Game and Watch) and the biography of Takahashi Meijin (which was originally published in Japanese).

I own both books in the History of Nintendo series (vol. 3, about the NES and Famicom, is slated for a French release in April, and the entire series is supposed to consist in seven volumes, no less!), and they're worth every penny, even at $30 apiece (shipping included). They're well documented and richly illustrated, on glossy full-color paper.

The Takahashi Meijin book is entertaining too (I read it only a couple of weeks ago), although it's maybe more for the Hudson fan.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, they're available here: http://pixnlovepublishing.com/topic/index.html

    Nice!

As a self-professed Game&Watch obsessive I think I'll need to pick those up.

A buddy of mine sent me a link to the site a few months ago, but I've yet to pick one up yet. They definately look awesome and very detailed, and I may wait until volume 2 comes out to see if there's some kinda bundle deal for the two books.

WOW, they're releasing the Takahashi Meijin book overseas? That's awesome. I never thought they'd take that gamble since he's not as well known over here.

Gaaaaaah Lady Jaye you got me all excited as i thought the other 2 books were out & then i discovered that they are still not released yet only the first one which i already have. Im guessing looking at your location that you got the french language versions? which is why you were able to read all of them now. Wish i could read french as pixnlove have so many awesome game related books & magazines.

I will agree though they are totally worth the money, so many rare pictures of so many nintendo items that it's like having a super detailed nintendo museum in book form. The books cover pretty much the history from the japan side of things not sure if they cover the west in later books but im going to guess not.

I have a few issues of Pix'n Love the magazine and all the IG Magazine issues starting with number 4 (IG is by another publisher, but Pix'n Love has partnered with them and distributes their mag online; IG is sold is newsstands here in Montreal, while IG isn't).

And yeah, I have vol. 1 and 2 of the Story of Nintendo in French and I'll definitely buy vol. 3 when it comes out. As for the other books published by Pix'n Love, I recently discovered that my library is getting them all. So I've read so far the Takahashi Meijin book and am currently reading the one on Michel Ancel (creator of Rayman, Beyond Good and Evil...). Also took out an essay called Des pixels à Hollywood, about the relationship between Hollywood and videogames (that one is different in style from the other books published by Pix'n Love and isn't as abundantly illustrated). And there are a few more books that I've reserved -- about girls and gaming, called Girl Power (even though it's in French) and another one about Gunpei Yokoi.

@Importaku: How is the quality of the translation of the Story of Nintendo? I know you can't compare it to the original French version, but is it good and well-written, or is it obvious that it's a translation?

I'd say 99.9% perfect. It reads really well & i couldn't spot any major translation oddities & off the top of my head i could only remember seeing one tiny spelling mistake. If you never knew the original book was written in french they you probably wouldn't know as it really is translated well into english.

It's kind of torture waiting for english vol 2 of the history of nintendo. I have been tempted to get the french one a few times but i'd only be able to look at the pics hehe.

If only more publishers put as much love into their books, pixnlove is indeed a fitting name.

Same here. I ordered Volume 1 awhile back and has been said, it's worth every penny. As soon as Volume 2 and the Takahashi Meijin book are translated they will be ordered. What I'm REALLY hoping for is that the Gunpei Yokoi book gets an English translation.

If the Takahashi Meijin book ends up like a real life Jimmy James, Macho Business Donkey Wrestler, I am 100% in. Icing on the cake.

Anyone know when the History of Nintendo Volume 2 is going to be available in English? I've waited for months and months and still the Pix N Love website doesn't even give an ETA except "winter" and doesn't even say which year!

Also I really want to see the NES bible in English ;-
