So how is Steel Diver?
I'll tell you when it arrives today.
1st, I love water games so count me in.
If not you may not like the game so much..
The 3d is less intense but nice and clean.
The gfx reminds me of In the Hunt another one of my fav games.
The sound is over all pleasant.
I look forward to more 2.5d 3d games.
Maybe a firmware upgrade will enable 2d-3d conversion on older DS games.
It can take a while to get use to using all the controls on the touch screen.
It’s a bit slower paced from what I have played. Needs to be with all the controls on the screen.
If you take damage you have to tap the leaks on the screen to fix them.
Also surfacing replenishes air and health.
The periscope part seems to be a mini type game not part of the main campaign.
It is still cool. the 1 to 1 tracking as you move the 3DS to turn the scope is neat.
Off topic a bit,
I have a hard time going back to my other cameras after using the fuji W3
everything is so much more lifelike and details look crisp and pop out.
Nature pics of waterfalls, caves, rock formations, plants, reflections off the water are awesome.
Pics of friends and family are priceless. It's like having a piece of reality paused and stored for the future.
More likely that Nintendo will hit us with a "3DS Edition" of popular 1st party DS titles at retail.
I can see the potential of Mario Kart DS 3DS edition and New Super Mario 3DS edition being stop-gap million-sellers until actual current-gen versions of those games are available.

Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Paper Mario and Mario Kart are new original titles.
They're not just 3D versions of Paper Mario for the N64 and Mario Kart DS.
How predictable of them, delivering new games for long established and loved franchises... Oh wait, that's what their customers want and proved it so by buying all the sequels and ports in the past! Almost got me there.
Saw a youtube video of playing a 3DS yesterday. With the 3D effect on, it just looks a little blurry on camera. The parallax effect is more subtle than I initially thought it would be. I'm going to try and see if I can demo a unit today. Not going to buy one yet, already decided that. But I am curious about it.

Okay, so, predictable Nintendo customers are predictable.
Also, while I'm not even legitimately criticizing it (since I'm one of millions that typically triple and quadruple dips on each subsequent iteration of Nintendo's re-packaging of classics) it doesn't change the fact that it's still predictable behavior.
Anybody care to take bets on whether or not Nintendo will be re-packaging past versions of popular titles with tacked-on 3DS hardware related features for the 3DS?

Well, isn't that happening already with Pac-man and Galaga? Hell, from what I've played of Rayman 3D it's little more than a 3D enhanced Rayman 2 (which isn't a bad thing).

Right.
We've all see this in hardware generation after hardware generation, especially in the early gen releases a quick port of existing software with hardware-specific-tweaks is pretty much par for the course.
And as much as I enjoy seeing new/different game concepts, characters, etc. I don't think there's anything wrong with hitting the well for some sure-fire hits/sellers per se.

I only have the original DS,
The screen on the 3DS is sharper and the colors are more pure.
White looks white not yellowish...
Stereo sound seems more separated.
My old R4 does not work on the 3DS.
Toys r us has a buy one 3DS game and get the 2nd 50% off special.
The TRU 50% off special is pretty crazy for a blanket offer on launch titles for a brand new system.
I could get Ridge Racer and Steel Diver for $60 together, that's pretty good.
Problem is, as much as I like Pilotwings, right now, I'm spending 80% of my 3DS time playing Pokemon White, which isn't even a 3DS game. Not because the launch titles are bad, just because it's Freakin Pokemon White.
I wish they'd released B&W earlier, actually, so I could've focused my attention more on the launch games.
