Generally, I adhere to the following:

* Don't use FAQs or Walkthrus.

* Don't watch playthrus of games I intend to beat on my own.

* Don't play emulated versions unless I own a legitimate version.

However, if a game is boring or not holding my interest, all the rules fly out the window.
