I have been playing lots of Gears of War 3 multiplayer lately. I also gave the Forza 4 demo a try and played some more Halo Reach. And of course I still check in with the Battlefield 3 beta but I'm slowly losing interest in it, if only because it's on one map with one game type.

Super Castlevania IV hasn't loosened its grip on my SNES for the better part of a week. Today I played some Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (PS2) to mix things up.. er, really, it was to listen to the music.

That's honestly the best thing about it, IMO. I played it straight through, from start to finish, for the first (and only) time a few months ago, and I honestly see why there's so much 3D Castlevania hate. The wife was there one day when I was playing it -- it was right after I completed it, actually -- and I had started a new game and was just dicking around a bit when she just came out and said; "this game looks...really boring". I tried to defend it for a second, but decided to just concede that it was.

Anyway, I beat Croc: Legend of the Gobbos for PlayStation, clearing it 100% even if my save file doesn't say so for some reason. The secret island was pretty lame overall. The stages weren't anything that special, although I should probably be glad that they weren't terribly difficult. It was kind of neat that they were built using concepts from all of the previous stages (each being devoted to the stages of each prior island), but at the same time it was very rehashed. The secret final boss just sucked. Both the boss itself and the ending were better with the normal final boss. I swear, I spent probably at least 30 minutes on one life alone trying to beat the secret boss just because it's impossible to tell if you're doing the right thing or not. I spent all that time going around and around in circles hitting the gongs since he reacted as if he was taking damage, and I noticed that he'd also move higher and higher. The moving platforms that circle him would also slowly change their pattern, so taking all of those signs into consideration, I figured that was progressing the fight. Turns out it was a complete waste of time and what I was pulling off was infinitely more impressive than the actual way to beat him. Turns out you have to hit all four gongs really fast, before he starts shooting again, and that's it. You don't even need to use the floating platforms either because you can just jump the chasm. Of course, I was smart enough to consider that maybe all the gongs needed to ring simultaneously, but they don't really work like that. You hit them and then they just stop. There's no decent indicator, not visually or audibly, to show that you need to hit them within a certain time span. Overall, just really dumb.

I started Genji: Dawn of the Samurai today, and it's snooze fest so far. It should be awesome since it's basically a combination of two games I really enjoy (Bujingai and Onimusha), but actually it's less than the sum of it's parts.

I've been picking my way, in my normal quick playing fashion, through Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics. This is all in between daily bouts with WoW.

Thought about trying to 100% Batman: Arkham Asylum before Arkham City is released, but I don't expect that to go well.
