Fixing Model 1 Genesis

System in question: Model 1, Non-High-Definition Graphics, with TMSS

I've taken it apart, blasted it with compressed air, and tried to clean the contacts with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Still, the only game it seems to want to play is XMen 2. Any suggestions? I am not giving up yet.

Buy another one.

You can find them on eBay for around $20, sometimes cheaper.

, I do have a main one - Model 1, High definition graphics, non-TMSS. I just ended up with this one when buying a 32X. I want to fix it just to learn how to do this sort of thing, and maybe sell it if I'm lucky enough to make it work properly. Anyone?

If it plays only one game, the problem is probably with the games. Try cleaning the other games. If alcohol doesn't work, try an eraser to clean off grime (use the white ones, not the pink ones).

My other Genesis plays the other games fine, which leads me to believe it's the system itself.

Check for corrosion on the contacts in the slot.

Problem solved! I read somewhere that taking a white eraser to the contacts will help (so long as you make sure no pieces of eraser are left in the slot). Now this Genesis plays all the games my other one does. Thanks all for your help.

You might want to still clean off your Genesis carts. They're probably also dirty, especially if this one was so bad it couldn't play games.
