Influenced by Mike Matei's Cinemassacre review of the Japanese film Message From Space, I picked up a Hong Kong release (looks like the same one he had in his review) off of Ebay for cheap. It honestly looked like a fun film. Glad to see it also has the original Japanese dialog with English subtitles too.

I picked up a copy of Rad Racket II for 5.00.

About 10 years ago I bought Power Blade 2 on a whim for 5.00. That was pretty cool when I found out it was rare a few weeks ago.

A friend of mine called me up tonight and told me that he had a bunch of video game related stuff that was mine if I wanted it. Eight minutes later I pull up into his driveway and return home with this:

Unpacked, it looks something like this:

The eras of the goodies range from PS2 to Texas Instrument learning cartridges. Above all, I now have tons of Sega, particularly Genesis, games and systems.

I now have a Genesis model 2, CD Player, 32X, light gun, Saturn, three controllers (2 1st party), and a ton of assorted cartridges (some boxed, others loose) and loose CDs. I honestly wouldn't care about the Sega CD if it weren't the for Final Fight CD. As a fan of the game, I wanna check that out and see the bad voice acting for myself. I also picked up my 4th functional NES toaster, yet another orange zapper and controller, and a few games (Toobin' is new to my collection). I also have some more PS2 games,

My friend has more stuff scattered amongst boxes in a shed. He told there is probably a Commodore 64 out there, and I am missing some hook ups for the Sega stuff, so I will definitely be out there tomorrow rooting around for treasure. I have been wanting to replace my lost C64 for a while now, so this is really exciting stuff. My friend Mike has definitely warmed the living hell out of my heart tonight. Every retro gamer needs a benefactor like him.

Good friends are awesome! This is why I have few friends, good friends are few and far between and I don't suffer fools.

I returned a vintage PC game to Goodwill today that was missing some disks, but ended up picking up a copy of Xenogears (missing manual) and Wild Arms 2 (CIB) for $5/ea

I returned to my friend's and tore through his shed. I recovered 55 Atari 2600 games including a sealed Kangaroo, 12 TI games/programs (this includes the ones from yesterday), Super PowerGlove (NES), An EA Golf game (Genesis), a SNES controller, 3 Gameboy games (one Advance), a Gameboy Advance with a scratched screen, two Commodore 64 carts, and Oregon Trail (PC).

Here is a close up of the 2600 goodies:

No sign of the C64 yet. My friend says it might be as his mom's house. Here's hoping he finds it and MORE.

I spotted a Sega CDX at a local Goodwill a few weeks back, but it had a heart-stopping $150 price tag on it. I see them so rarely, that I kept tabs on it every time I visited the store. After a week or so, they marked it down to $99.99 but I still wasn't ready to bite. Last week I had a chance to talk to an employee that was nice enough to explain the order that they used for their half-priced days (she gave me the order of price tag colors that they used). Armed with that info, I headed in yesterday morning and sure enough the CDX was included in the half price sale. Deduct an additional 5% for Club Goodwill and the CDX was mine for about $48. Persistence pays off!

After a long drought, I'm hoping my luck will change today. I have a few 15% off coupons for Half Price Books that expire on Wednesday, so this morning I stopped in to a location and snagged:

Raiden Fighters Aces (Xbox 360) - in immaculate shape, complete.

After the coupon, the total was $9.19

I've been looking for this shmup collection for quite some time, so extremely happy to have found it!! Now I have about 4 more coupons to use and will try to get out tonight and tomorrow to find more discount goodness.

Nothing on the sale front, but on the personal purchase front...

This was 50 cents. There was another CD I wanted to buy but the disc was missing. Not bad! Some idiot is selling this on eBay for $100, and someone in France wants five euros for this. So I think I got a good deal.

Some guy also brought a huge box full of DVDs at $1 each. I grabbed these:

Lucker The Necrophagus: The Director's Cut
Big Bad Mama 1 + 2 (Roger Corman's Cult Classics)
Teknolust (female scientist makes robotic clones of her that require sperm for sustenance... okay!)
Bruno Mattei's Womens Prison Massacre + Caged Women
    Exit 38
    The Hitchhiker (ten episodes)
    Spliced
Two Evil Eyes (by George Romero and Dario Argento)

He said $1 each but he told me he wanted $10 for all because I grabbed some movies that had more than one disc. Bah.

Most of the movies on that bin were either former rentals or just plain garbage, but it seemed odd to find so many trashy things. And before anyone says anything, I bought Womens Prison Massacre to resell or trade away. I don't like that sort of stuff. Oh sure, I'll watch The Cinema Snob riff on it, but actually watch it? No thanks.

    More fairly ordinary finds:

Shadow of the Colossus strategy guide
    Bratz - PS1
    Jersey Devil - PS1
    Gamecube controller

I think the lady forgot to give me my receipt (it was right at closing), so I don't know precisely how everything rang up but it came out to 11 bucks after tax. Anyway, I already have Jersey Devil, but last I remember it's kinda uncommon and sells for about $20 so I figured it was worth a quick flip. The GameCube controller is the best part, since now I have a full set of four, each its own unique color, no less. That'll make 4-player gaming a heck of a lot easier. It was a little dirty on top, but it cleaned up nicely and the buttons all felt nice from the get-go. I wasn't in the mood to buy a controller that would have to be opened up for cleaning. Cleaning off the outside, it looks and plays practically like new now.

I wandered around the flea market for a bit today and stumbled upon a booth that bought out most of the movies I left behind. The guy managed to sell around sixteen yesterday, pretty much all the ones I wanted were in that pile... but I managed to snag three more:

    Night Train Murders
    The Killing Kind
    Commander Hamilton

Yes, it's that guy from the Oh Snap gifs. He's some sort of Middle European 007 or something and Mark Hamill is the bad guy. An AMERICAN bad guy. How can you NOT like that? Total hero / villain reversal!

A bunch of CDs, including a BRAND NEW SHAQ DIESEL HELL YEAH so if anyone wants my older copy you can have it. Oh yeah and a Gameshark Cheats and Codes Volume 1 disc. I wonder if it'll work on my PS2.

    Also, THIS finally arrived!

Temp Sound Solutions: Now You're Playing with Powar 6, 7, 8, 9, 9.5, and X, plus a TSS shirt (which ended up being too big for me) - $50 shipped. I got a discount since I've supported him for YEARS and promoted his stuff at my website. Yay!

I happened upon some 2600 games at the Half Price Books near me. I really should have picked some of them up as I had never seen some of them before.

I ended up not picking up any of them but figured the Co Co Nuts might be a bit rare. I checked the rarity guide on here and it was a 3. I then checked the Karate and saw it was a rarity 9! I went back up today and of course it had sold.

I had this gut feeling to pick it up but I decided not to. Never again!

Yea, if you have a gut feeling, it's sometimes best to pony up the cash and take a possible hit. More times than not that's worked out for me and there are several things I decided not to buy (even though my gut was telling me yes) and I lost out on cool crap and/or easy money.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Karate is only a 4. Its a Froggo game. Not sure what you looked up but its not rare or valuable.

You have learned valuable lesson today, young Padawan.

How do you think I seem to have such good luck?

I grabbed an untested Master System on eBay for $17.17. System only but that's a good damn deal. Hoping it works but I know I can fix it if otherwise.

Erm, you seem to strike out much more than luck out. It does feel good when you luck out though. That Betamax VCR I bought for $9.99 works and turned out to be one of the most highly sought after models, with it recently going for $200 on ebay.
