Default Getting Turned into a Frog in Ghosts 'n Goblins

Idle thought of the moment: it is possible to get turned into a frog in Ghost 'n Goblins NES, right? I don't think I ever saw it as a young'un.

I would have thought there'd be a definitive guide to making it happen, or at least a Youtube video, but in fact http://protipoftheday.com/node/277.html claims it can't be done.

Hit any of the first levels grave stones about 10 times and wait for the magician to pop out (should immediately appear on the headstone), and let the spell it casts hit you, you'll learn how it is to be turned into a frog.

In the NES version I have not tested the tombstone thing, but I do believe there are certain bonus items that will turn you into a frog (like one of the various Yashichi symbols, or one kind of knight statue).

Funny that I should see this topic right now. I JUST seconds ago finished watching the Game Center CX episode in which Arino plays the Famicom version, and, yeah, he got turned into a frog by hitting a tombstone in stage 1. Unless the NES version is different from the Famicom version in that regard for some odd reason, which I highly doubt, it's in the game. If you want to see it in action on Youtube, just look up Game Center CX Episode 3. Should be pretty close to the beginning of the episode.

I could swear I've been Frogged in the NES version before.

I'll have to test again... I generally prefer to play the arcade version if I have a choice.

EDIT: By the way, in the third game Arthur can get turned into a hot chick. You actually need to do this to unlock a bonus in Capcom Classics Collection 1.

Yup, as has been said if you shoot a headstone a few times the magician that pops out will turn you into a frog.

Shoot the tombstones that are at an angle. Those are the ones the magician pops out of. It makes a really creepy noise when he comes out, too.

Yeah, in Ghosts 'n Goblins he turns you into a frog, then in Ghouls 'n Ghosts he turns you into a duck.

Here we are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAFYd...ailpage#t=348s. Poor, poor Arino.

    Guess that answers that question.

you can also be turned into a frog on the bridge level, there is a power up sitting on the bridge that will transform you.

Not only can you summon the magician by shooting the tombstones in the NES game, but you can pick up a small red icon similar to the armor point bonus icons called the "Frog King." That's the item in question that Blitzwing mentioned.

EDIT: By the way, in the third game Arthur can get turned into a hot chick. You actually need to do this to unlock a bonus in Capcom Classics Collection 1.
Hot chick? According to the manual, that's a little girl.

Depending on what kind of armor you're wearing, you change into different things. In Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Arthur's changed into a duck while wearing armor and an old man with a cane without. In Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Arthur's turned into a baby (no armor), a seal (regular armor), a bee (green armor) and the aforementioned little girl (gold armor). Arthur changes into a frog no matter he's wearing in Ghosts 'n Goblins. I'm not sure what the transformations are in Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins, though.

There are two offhand I can tink of for UGnG, a chicken and being turned into a skeleton with boxers (no you aren't dead, just cursed) who can still fight.
