Just came across this device:

Has anyone here tried one? Does it work alright with all SNES games?

No I havent tried it but also i have never seen it. Looks cool for start over games like out of this world or nosferatu.
I've heard of these but never came across any before in person. I'm pretty sure some games had some type of compatibility issues but I forget what they were at the moment.
I went ahead and ordered one. For that price, its not too big a risk. I just wish some company made a similar device for NES games.
I think I briefly had one many years ago. No idea how little used, if even for its intended purpose.
The other thing it does is let Japanese games fit.
Lum fan.
^^^ or a pair of pliers
I have one floating about somewhere.
It works but with a few caveats.
It has space for some batteries but they don't last terribly long when not plugged into the snes (the batteries were mostly so you transport the game save abetween machines) - normally it depends on
household current to keep the memory whilst plugged into the system . If you lose power you lose whatever is saved on it (either immediately if you don't have batteries in it or a bit later if you do).
I did have it screw up a copy of Super Conflict - that game has a hybrid password/battery save system. It jacked up the password system on the game itself - fortunately that game was easily replaced at the time. The device just never seemed all that useful to me.
When I come home from a long day in Hell, there's nothing I'd rather reach for than a fire-brewed bottle of Styx Beer. Made from the filthiest waters from our own River Styx. Styx Beer is a third more toxic than any other regular beer. The worst beer - the filthiest beer - the deadliest beer. It's Styx Beer!
This is a device for saving your state on a real cart+system. Sounds pretty useful to me if you want to complete some of the very difficult games for the system which have no saving or password system
One game that comes to mind is Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. I'd sure liked to have had this thing years ago when I was trying to beat the speeder bike level.
And if you are trying to speed-run a game it's great to have a save at the beginning of levels far into the game so you can practice them over and over.
Thanks to everybody for the replies.
I do have some more questions:
1. If I save my progress on Battlemaniacs for a month and come back to play from that point, what are the chances my save will still be there, using 6 AA cells of course?
2. How many save states will this thing hold at once? 1? 50? 100?
3. Can I only have one save state for Battlemaniacs stored on the device at a given time?
I was also very curious of this thing... I'm pretty sure the battery on my Earthbound cart will die eventually, and I was wondering if I could use this as an alternate way to save without risking any damage when replacing the battery... Thanks for any help you guys can give me!
No idea on the other two, but I'd say you have a very good chance of keeping your save for over a month. The amount of data held by the device is very little, just the RAM information from the system. How long do the batteries in your remote last before losing the code for your TV?
As long as your power stays on the save will be there. The unit takes power from your snes power plug and then passes the power onto the snes (there was an earlier version that had its own power supply) - so even if the snes is turned off it will still save. IIRC correctly there is a switch to go on either battery or ac.
This can only save one game at a time and only one save for that game - and if (again IIRC) you take the game out of it it will lose that save.
The batteries do not last very long - even with new batteries I think the saves lasted less than a day - I only tried it twice since I didn't have a particular need to do this - just wanted to test the new toy. If I can find the box I will dig out the manual - I think it covers this in it.

Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts comes to mind. I left my SNES on for 6 days in order to beat it when I was like 12 lol
You can use a separate SNES AC adapter if you like. It doesn't need to use the pass-through. That way you can yank it out, set it aside, and just leave it plugged in.
I would suggest a retrode if you're afraid of that happening. You can backup save files to your PC with it. Super useful when changing batteries too.

i've noticed that ALOT of these have been showing up new lately, ebay, online retailers, even saw a few in a local shop.
i'm wondering if some one found a bunch recently, like a warehouse full, and is distributing them
Probably. There were constant ads for this thing in Game Informer back in the 90s. And in the days prior to (good) emulation, I always thought it was nifty and probably would have bought one back then had I come across it. But I never once actually saw one until the influx of label-less ones recently.

I'm very tempted if not just for the ability (if it works) to finally properly enjoy DOOM on the SNES. The cheapness and laziness of my old employer has always pissed me off with this title in particular. The fact they skimped one size down on the ROM by chopping a couple levels and 7 of 8 monster angle views is bad enough, but then to downright have NO BATTERY was just inexcusable. I suppose some god of DOOM perhaps could drop it in a few hours, but for anyone who isn't damn near perfect that game takes way too long with no save option. There are other titles with some annoying ass passwords still present too like WIng Commander, another that got cheaped out on with no battery, and then just annoyingly hard games too such as those mentioned in the thread.
That retrode looks damn tempting too though but you're stuck playing through a computer or a mobile device(ios I doubt w/out it being jailbroken) if I read that little bit right on it before.
