Dead Rising 2 Off The Record. What is this?

What is this game?

An expansion stand alone of Dead Rising 2 (like Red Dead Nightmare)
Dead Rising 2 + added levels (like Oblivion GOTY)
A whole new game (like Fallout Vegas)

Haven't played it for myself, but my understanding is it's a "re-imagining" of Dead Rising 2 (Capcom's words) with Frank West as the protagonist? Sort of like an alternate story or "what if?" kind of thing. I guess you could compare it to the events of The Walking Dead comics compared to the Walking Dead TV show? Sort of?

Basically it's the original dead rising 2 game but with extra added content. You now control Frank West & his photo taking ability, theres a new added theme park area & some new item/weapon combos. Thats pretty much it, but it was enough added content to make me buy the OTT version as well. I think the DLC costumes from the Chuck version are findable in the OTT version without having to buy them. Been a while since i played but im sure that was a bonus of the upgraded version.

You no longer get to play as Chuck but he is in the game, but not as a playable character. Both are worth getting but if you had to choose one i's personally go for off the record.

Yeah, I'd say it's more of an added story rather than an expansion, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

So if a gamer has Off the Record would there be any reason (not for collecting) that they would want to also purchase/rent/play Dead Rising 2 ?

From what it sounds like there would be no need to do so.

The storylines are the same but as Frank West instead of Chuck. He's getting Zombrex for himself, so you can use Zombrex wherever you're at in the game. There's an extra area like someone already mentioned and there's also a free mode in the game that allows you to do whatever without the timer. There's a couple additional bosses, and one boss is the same boss, but a different character.

Most of the game is the same except for the new area, a HUGE story twist resulting in an awesome final boss not seen in the original DR2. Easily could have been DLC, but since I like physical things I didnt mind.
