The Final Days of the Wii

For Nintendo Wii fans, Ubisoft continues to support the system with their highly successful Just Dance series. I would expect that the Wii version still outsells all others, and they're all great dance/workout titles that make perfect use of the motion controls.

I haven't checked lately, but I wouldn't be surprised if Just Dance 2016 was the only commercial release this year. Ah, well.

Nothing in Japan.

Still kicking slightly outside of Japan and the US. 40,000 units were sold, presumably largely in Europe, from April through June this year. Hardware sales ceased a couple of years ago in Japan and North America didn't register enough to round up to 10,000 units.

Software sales still seem alive worldwide in small numbers though. During this period, Japan moved 130,000 games despite Wii console sales having concluded in the region, North America saw 360,000 units sold (One to me, likely the last Wii game that I buy new at a B&M store), and the region encompassing the rest of the world like Europe sold 630,000 games (No doubt helped by the Nintendo Selects line in Europe).

For the latest quarter, Nintendo moved another 30,000 Wii consoles (For a total of 70,000 systems sold from April through September) and shifted another 2.96 million games (For a total of 4.08 million for the first half of Nintendo's fiscal year).

It will be interesting to get a good luck at what type of numbers Nintendo does this Christmas. Still not quite dead just yet.

No $50 Wii Mini farewell though, although at least Nintendo has reprinted Super Mario Galaxy 2 and dropped it to $20 at long last.
