The point of game of the day topics being individualized is to easily archive and search them. If it were the same topic it would be a complete clusterfuck that no one would bother with after the first page.

The GOTD topics are the only thing keeping the retro section of this forum alive in the wake of the Retro VGS/Chameleon and Mod rage drama from a few months back. I'll admit, I'm a big fan of his mini-review GOTD series, but even if I wasn't, the truth is this place was a ghost town for almost a year before he started them.

Yeah. The last time this place was poppin' with non GOTD discussion was when the Coleco Chameleon fiasco was going on. Shortly after that (or perhaps during, I don't remember exactly) there was an unrelated kerfuffle where one of the mods here had a meltdown of sorts and banned a few people and locked the forum down barring any new members from joining lest they navigate through a pay wall in order to participate in discussion here, or at least that was the plan anyway.

The idea made about as much sense as a screen door on a submarine, and went over like a lead balloon.

I like the GOTD topics and am happy with them as they are, but Jesus Christ, could you possibly be more of a troll? I guess we can at least be glad that you just barely stopped short of calling him the F slur.

I don't post these anywhere else, for better or worse. They started because when traffic here was really dying off, there was a suggestion that some users needed to commit to try to post new topics regularly. I don't have ingenious ideas for brilliant conversation starters every day, but I've played a lot of games, and I thought it might be good to talk about some of them that are really fun, but aren't the same top ten list fodder that's all over the internet.

The idea is to try and have conversation with the people here at DP. I like the people here, and just wanted to do something to help keep conversation going and maybe offer up an alternative to the norm for what games are talked about. So, they aren't anywhere else, because they're specifically meant for the folks here like Emperor Megas, Edmond Dantes, Daria, Aussie, bb_hood, Steve_W, Steven, sfchakan, FieryReign, Koa Zo, Tanooki, tom, eskobar, Niku-sama, skaar, RPA-203, Tron 2.0, FrankSerpico, ccovell and everyone else I've enjoyed talking to here (sorry if I left someone out, but I'm half asleep).

Truthfully, it'd be easier not to do them some days. It takes about an hour minimum each day, playing the game again to be honest and accurate, taking pictures, and writing it up. Sometimes I know I won't have time, so I put an extra together so I won't miss a day. I enjoy it, though, and it's fun to get to talk to everyone here, catching stories about the fitst time they played a game, the tangents like when the Terra Cresta thread basically turned into a Gondomania thread, and even the frustrations like today when MetalFRO shared a perfectly solid counterpoint about Sol Divide.

DP seems like it's crashing, but I'm going to keep trying to contribute as long as my real life and the site integrity allow, whether it's GOTD posts, commenting on other people's topics, or whatever else I can do, because forums with this concentration of level-headed adults aren't just all over the place for video games.

Anyway, point is I don't post this stuff to gain anything other than the fun of talking shit with good people. If they bother anyone, I'm sorry, but I'm just trying to help.

Everybody keeps saying this in some form or another, but DP aint dead yet. Even tho there arent a huge amount of new posts, the site must get a decent amount of visitors. Its 2am right now and 83 people are viewing the Classic Gaming. There are some forums I visit that are really slow (Ibanez forums). Like only a few posts a month. Then there are other forums the have much more activity but 80% of the community has the mentality of a 6-year-old (rocksmith forums). Idk, I like Digital Press and even if it slows down I hope it does not dissapear.

When I've posted for the last two weeks or more, the icons in the tool bar do not appear, nor do the ones in each sub-forum, like the little invaders, flames, ratings, etc., and it seems that other folks are having the same problem. I don't know if Nz17 quit, is taking a break, or what, but there's definitely stuff not working like it once did.

I like the GOTD threads. I pop in a few here and there to read about games I missed and might be interesting for my kids. Well, if I can divert them from playing anything other than Minecraft when the missus and I let them play (with our children combined from our past marriages, we have a dozen so control is totally necessary).

I'm not near as active as I used to be as I only have time to really lurk. And it also seems my forum socializing went down the crapper from prolonged non-usage. Looking at my old threads and reading my new ones...sometimes I swear I read kinda on the dumb side. I also blame using my phone to post....just not the same as using a computer.
