Intrepid Izzy is a genre-defying 2D game with a unique HD art style. Seamlessly blending platforming with beat-'em-up and adventure elements, Intrepid Izzy offers a gaming experience that feels both unique and familiar.

A lot of time and attention was spent on developing the visual style of the game. The crisp and cartoony HD graphics come to life thanks to bright, warm colours and smooth animations.

    - Unique HD art style inspired by retro game graphics.
    - Crisp, detailed sprites with smooth animations.
    - Classic and modern influences come together in all aspects: gameplay, graphics and sound.
    - Explore huge levels, each with its own theme and mechanics.
    - Awesome soundtrack by the critically acclaimed Ben Boahene.
    - A story filled with humorous dialogues, excentric characters and mysterious secrets.
    - Excellent hardware support and all the options you might need to enjoy the game your way.
    - Easy to pick up, difficult to put down!

So is this supposed to be a good game or are we making fun of this as another rip off cash grab? Just going by the screen shot posted it looks like Shantae somehow ended up in a Sonic game, and older pixelated graphics is now an "HD art style".

Or "HD art style" is this gaming generations hype along the lines of "parallax scrolling".

It's that lazy animation technique I call 'puppet parts' where the head, arms, legs etc are individual pieces. Also looks like vectorized illustrations, nothing pixelated about that, just an efficient way to scale the visuals to whatever console's resolution that you're porting to.

    Anyway, uninspired design here overall.

I think the technical term is skeletal(or bone) animation. I wouldn't say it's done out of laziness. It lets the animator use modern animation tools in the same way that a 3D model would be animated. If you have to redo an animation you just edit some curves in the animation tool, you don't have to completely redraw 100 different images. It also lets the 2D animations work with the physics engine. Say if a bomb goes off, the character can fly backwards as you would expect. Where it look cheap is when they don't move correctly, like when the arms and legs just spin around unnaturally-like in Scribblenauts(though in this case I'd say it adds to the games charm)
"Game programmers are generally lazy individuals. That's right. It's true. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Since the dawn of computer games, game programmers have looked for shortcuts to coolness." Kurt Arnlund - Game programmer for Activision, Accolade...

It's a good proof of concept, but this needs a lot more work. The animation doesn't look right, and the visuals remind of a low budget cellphone game.

I'm not saying that this game is doomed, just that it's not, in it's current state, something I'm willing to give money towards.

The vast majority of Dreamcasts will require no extra work nor mods to play this or any other homebrew game. Basically, as long as your Dreamcast was manufactured before November 2000, you are good to go. Playing this will be the same as running any other Dreamcast software from a standard Dreamcast GD-ROM.

For a more detailed guide to what's compatible, this is a good thread about which Dreamcasts are Mil-CD compatible.
