Yeah, but in both cases, it still is wrong. There's nothing wrong in pointing out this sort of thing as being wrongdoing and letting others know that they might want to reconsider patronizing these businesses and products.

Technical patents which expire after 20 years according to the Patent and Trademark Office are different from movie copyrights which expire after the life of the author plus 70 years. For works of corporate authorship it's 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication (whichever is earlier); and copyright protection for works published before 1978 is for 95 years from their publication date according to the U.S. Copyright Office.
