Was 2010 the year Google had a playable Pac-Man maze in the logo? Feels like so long ago that Google wasn't set on turning itself and YouTube into AI garbage but that's a derail.

Happy Anniversary Pac-Man! It's astonishing how much of a contribution to video games he was.

Pac-Man did not grab me in the arcades, so I spent most of my time with Space Invaders back in the day. I respect Pac-Man's legacy and added many Pac-Man games to my collection over the years, but because my initial impression was poor, I never played any of them. Strange considering I find most maze games appealing. Maybe it's because I prefer to shoot and kill things and not engage in gluttony.
I always meant to play Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness because the updated graphics and sokoban style puzzles looked fun, but somehow never got around to it. It's still on my games I must play before I die list.
When I began collecting Amiga CD32 games I was made aware that Amiga's Fury of the Furries game was later reskinned by Namco with Pac-Man characters to become Pac-In-Time. Who knew!

My first memory of Pac-Man was Ms. Pac-Man on NES, which we rented from the corner video store. After a few hours, I hit a wall where you can't just bullshit your way through mazes anymore, actually learning patterns was required. Then my mother walked in and asked for the controller. See, she didn't seem to like video games much, but played a lot of Ms. Pac-Man a lot before I was born and wanted to try. She sat there for four full uninterrupted hours clearing maze after maze after maze, just completely rocking that shit. All these years later, the patterns still stick to me. I couldn't for the life of me tell you what I had for breakfast this morning, but I've got a mental sub-process chaining perfect cherries behind my words as I type this. Funny the things that stick with you.

Looking at the channel those videos are posted from, looks like the first one was actually uploaded three months ago. Since then, they've added more fun animations and a couple trailers for that Pac-Man metroidvania Shadow Labyrinth. Worth a look, fun stuff.

And I guess this is a great excuse to drop the official Championship Edition Demake for those that haven't seen it:

I was born near the end of that year, so I've only ever gotten around to it retroactively. I've seen the merchandising that came about because of it's popularity, and I remember the cartoon series, some.

If you somehow don't know about it, get on Opa-Opa/Fantasy Zone: The Maze(arcade/Master System) when you can. You collect coins like Pac-Man does pellets, buy can use them to buy projectiles, and shoot the enemies that show up.

I jumped on the pre-order for the Pac-Man Double Feature for the 7800. That "arcade" version looks dang wicked for 7800 (or as the kids say "fire").

For those that don't check out Atari Age on all things Atari Plus, this "Pac-Man" 2600+ has the same guts as the 7800+ and will thus have the greater (at this moment anyway) compatibility with titles.

That demake is absolutely fantastic. I was a big fan of the first CE on 360 and was floored that one guy managed to port it to the NES with such amazing results. In case anyone is interested, the standalone ROM has been ripped from that collection and can be played on real hardware or whatever you emulate with.

I love it when on some of these mini consoles or collections they put out new old stuff. Starfox 2, Darius, & Fantasy Zone are all great, but NES Pac-Man CE takes the cake.

I gave away my 2600 cart collection back in '99, so these new Atari consoles don't have much appeal to me, but if I still had 'em I'd be all over this thing. Even the ghost themed controllers look awesome. I'm shocked that Atari managed to go all in with their Namco partnership and even more shocked that the 7800 Pac-Man homebrew is seeing an official release. I'd never in a million years expected anything like that to happen.

Atari seems to genuinely be making some good decisions with their products and generating a lot of goodwill with fans. The hardware is great, reissuing controllers boxes games, and most importantly releasing new products like this Pac-Man double cart, Tiger Heli, and Bentley Bear. It's great to see that hobbyists who have busted their ass as a labor of love to keep a community alove are now being outright embraced in a way nobody ever expected

I never got around to buying the original 2600 plus let alone the 7800 version so maybe i'll buy this version.Yeah i've heard that homebrew for the 7800 pac-man is really so like to try it.

Agreed modern atari has been doing great for it's fans as of late.Back in 2023,i bought a 2600 again the sears telegames model.I only have a handful games for it still i been meaning to buy a harmony flash car for it but i'm all ways short on money.Still i'm tempted to buy this pac-man theme 2600 plus so i can play 2600/7800 on a modern tv.Yeah and i never expected atari to make a deal with namco for a license to reissue there games and even make the 7800 pac-man offcial.

I can't say I've ever been more than a passive Atari fan. The one I own was a gift from a friend who didn't want to bother selling it. Actually, the fanciest one I've seen in person was a Darth Vader collectors one (meaning it was solid black and...that's about it) at a convention swap meet once. But I do really like those controllers.
