Good enough for the Toy Hall of Fame, yet is Tamagotchi good to you or your friends or family? I was never a fan, yet props for what it has managed during the decades.
In English speaking countries? Yes, but the high cost and low availability means knock-offs and competitors were more popular up until around V4 (or so is the agreed drop off point). In Japan, it's a niche of a niche, but still a well known hobby toy.
Personally, I was partial to the V1 merchandise more than the thing itself.
