Holy crap. It's been a while.
ahhh...a topic to express how I really hate how they fucked mario up. I know some of you may like the sequal but I hate it. SUPER MARIO WORLD 2. I have always thought this game was so shit compaired to the first one. I love the first super mario world. I soooo wish they would have made the 2nd one better than the first. I loved super mario 1 to super mario 3. Great change without fucking it up. Why couldnt they do that with the mario worlds? They just totaly changed it and Im still pissed off because I want to play mario world but with new levels and layouts but without the gayness that baby mario and those shitty backrounds and everything else obout the second mario world caused. I HATED IT!!!

Castlevania 2: Still not a big fan of it even though I hated it more back when I was younger.
Final Fight 2/3: Stale and not as fun as the orginial.
Actraiser 2: "Let's take out the sim element that made the first one a hit, make the graphics really pretty, and up the challenge up the wazoo!"

Heh...i didn't really like Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island...I agree with you, they should have just kept the mario format but with different levels and maybe in a different land..he saved yoshi's home and the princess...so why not another person's or creature...at least they recompensed (sorry for the mispelling) with Super Mario RPGOriginally Posted by charitycasegreg
even tho it wasn't really of a follow up...anyways talking about the RPG...even tho i haven't played Paper Mario...it doesn't really look as good as SMRPG...
I really enjoy Zelda II. I'm a big fan of Mario 2. Castlevania 2 was the only NES Castlevania I liked at all.
DMC 2 was the biggest let down for me, given how much I liked the original. MGS is one of my top 5 games of all time, I couldn't stand MGS2 (although I plan to give it another shot). Actraiser 2 was a horrible let down.
For a couple that haven't been mentioned -
I was really disappointed by Powerstone 2. I have a great love for the strategic action of the first one, and was really disappointed when I played the sequel.
Snowboard Kids 2 is another candidate here. They took what was an almost perfect racing formula, and just distorted it all to hell.
I can't believe nobody has listed what has to be the most universally lambasted sequel ever, the game that is the definition of sequels gone wrong - Spy Hunter 2. That game is as hated as the original is loved. If you haven't played Spy Hunter 2, don't. I'm glad that I didn't actually see a Spy Hunter 2 until the early 90s, as it was so disappointing then that I don't even want to think what my reaction would have been when the game was new.
California Games II is one of my biggest gaming disappointments ever. I loved California Games *so* much and when 2 game out ... what the hell happened?
Impossible Mission II was also a big let down. It wasn't terrible, but it became so complex that it lacked the simplicity and innovation the second one had. Kind of like Hacker II, I guess. They tried to make it a sequal by just making it more complicated.
I would prolly have to say Driver 2 for PSX as well. That game was horrible.
I'm siding with ManekiNeko on this one. It's not as good as the original, but it's still a good game and it doesn't deserve the flack it gets.Originally Posted by ManekiNeko

Would everyone hate Actraiser 2 if it had a different name? I understand the dissapointment that the land developing stages were removed. This dissapointed me at first too. On the other hand I play A LOT of games and I actually appreciate the challenge. I find myself putting this cart in quite often and trying to see if I can best it. I always get stuck in that damn underground jail maze thing. I think most games are too easy and a decent action game that makes you really work is a good thing in my book.
Bacon, Bacon, Bacon, IT'S BACON!!!!
The only one in my head.. Zelda II: Adventure of Link. Su-diddly-uck's.
I mean it. I love Mario 2. I love Mario World 2. I even enjoy Zoda's Revenge. But Zelda II is a travesty.
DOOM ][ for one I personally don't like, but that's not my most hated sequel.
I haven't played much of Zelda 2 at all, so I don't wanna comment on it. I was also thinking of Actraiser 2.
However...
Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge.
well...
"There is no trap on the train," says the man with the bugged out eyes.
Of course there's a trap on the train.
My sentiments exactly. I remember pre-ordering this one and playing through SMW1 like 3 times the week before in anticipation of this "new" Mario. I was soooooooo dissappointed. Why does everyone like this so much? It introduced me to many of the game elements in the modern VG world that I loathe. Why must I get "100%" on every level???? I HATE forced replayability with a passion.ahhh...a topic to express how I really hate how they fucked mario up. I know some of you may like the sequal but I hate it. SUPER MARIO WORLD 2. "And remember ladies: if it ain't tight, it ain't right!"
Oh, hey, I know what you guys are talkin' about. My copy has a dead battery. Bleh :(
I still haven't played through it much in any case. It just doesn't do it for me, though I don't mind the graphics style. The level layouts seem a bit...meh.
I loved Yoshi's Island. The graphic style, special effects, story. It was perfect. Different. A nice change. In fact, all 5 of the Mario games are completely different.
The original had that nice linear 4 level worlds, 8 worlds with some warps. A classic style and graphics.
SMB2 (US) had a complete change of pace. A totally new domain to explore. 7 worlds with 3 levels each (Except the last.) A new boss. New enemies. A totally new style of game play.
SMB3 brought us back to the original style of play, but with a whole new feel. World maps. Each world had a different number of levels and castles, bosses. It was a whole new experience.
SMW took it a step further. A huge world map divided into different zones. Totally new levels and a completely new style.
Yoshi's Island was a brand new feel. And while not a "Mario Bros" game per say, it was a new experience. Six new worlds. Sis levels each. New moves, graphics that rocked. Special effects powered by the Super FX2 chip. It was a whole new experience!
How anyone can not like the series as a whole is beyond me. I have all five of those on my GBA and that makes me so happy. I've beaten them all except SMB1 which I only got today. But I'm gonna try again tonight.

. No!!! It is just too much different. Makes me wanna kill myself when I play it. Mario 2 was messed up for a reason but still was fun. I jsut cant stand yoshis island. I know Im complaining a lot but ahh! It jsut was the biggest dissapointment ever!!! i bet if they made it more mario world 1 style, they would have sold well over twice as many copies. I still dont have mario world 2 and I wont buy it unless I see it for like a dollar at a garage sale. Then I probably wont ever play it.

I despised the Legend of Mana. Compared to the Secret of Mana, the Legend was such a wash. And yes, I realize that Legend wasn't the first sequel in the series, but I don't count Sword of Mana (GB Final Fantasy whatever it was) as the first in the series when compared to Secret.
Oh, and I really liked Simon's Quest. I thought it was an innovative jump for the series. In fact, the only Castlevanias I disliked were the N64 ones.
Zillion 2. Loved the first, did not like the second very much at all.
Super Mario Bros. 2 was kind of dissapointing for people who expected a similar Mario game.
