I know there are/were a few from japan. Anyone know of any? whatever system, any of them in english?

My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.
Four come to mind immediately:
Horse Racing for Intellivision (still my favorite)
Stakes Winner for Neo-Geo
Stakes Winner 2 for Neo-Geo
Then there is the "Virtua Gallop" series and "Winning Post" by Koei. The latter of which is more a horse RAISING than horse RACING game, btw!
For Playstation there is Gallop Racer, and for Playstation 2 there is also a Gallop Racer game (can't remember the exact name...) I hear that GR for the orig. PSX will not play in a PS2 though...I don't know how true that is.

Enjoyable Horse Racing for the Famicom, but don't expect to find a cart anywhere.
hmm hey thanks, i been looking for some reason to get a neogeo, all i used to do is rent one way back when. oh i miss baseball stars.

the one for PS2 is Gallop Racer 2001....I bought it out of morbit curiousity, but found myself playing it for quite sometime...you buy and raise horses...you can bread them together and you race them.....it's kinda a sim/racing game and I would suppose if you're really into horse racing would be very addicting
There is a picture of a "Horse Racing" game for the ColecoVision in the Coleco silver catalog but I still don't know if any prototype exists.

Long time no see. Still playing my coleco games?

I agree, the PS2 Gallop Racer is a WONDERFUL game. Very addicting, it's both relaxing and exciting at the same time.
You'll get attached to horses with names like "Ben Gay".
Now is gallop Racer for ps2 american or jap. if jap does it have english as an option. Or is it easy to figure out. This is one big reason for me to go and get a mod chip.
but again, i also seem drawn to get a NeoGeo, but i need to understand a little more about that first.

Gallop Racer 2001 for PS2 is American...I would say though, that it is a bit hard to find, I've only seen it twice...

I dn't see it often , but it's out there...I saw it today for $30 at a gamestop brand new
derby stallion was a big series on the super famicom, i have one of these carts and it has some funky modem slot in it for downloading new stats. i guess its one of those jap. sims where you manage the horse's career...and then theres always arabian. funny with all the games made for the NES you'd think at least one would involve horse racing, didnt anybody ever make a triple crown game? seems so obvious.

I saw a shed load of Japanese horse games for the SNES courtesy of one of my uni flatmates who was from Hong Kong...
There is also "Sport of Kings" on C64, good horse betting game...
The best horse racing game I've played by the length of the straight is called G1 Jockey (by Koei) for the Pal PS2 . The emphasis is on racing (rpg elements are kept to a minimum) . The career mode is great and the 2 player split screen head to head is solid . It's far better than the Gallop Racer series on the Psx . I've got Stakes Winner 1 & 2 for the Neo cart system and they're a waste of time . The Winning Post series has a heavy rpg component . If you've got the slightest interest in horse racing games then you must get G1 Jockey (this is the name of the game in Australia...the stakes in the game are listed in pounds so it may be a European exclusive release).
I guess you're looking more for US games than non-Japanese ones, but in the UK the Acetronic had a Horse Racing game IIRC. Plus, that system had a few clones about so you can find the game in at least Australia/New Zealand, and probably in German/Europe in general.Originally Posted by Chunky

Got any obscure game stuff?
Go horse racing games! Galloper Racer 2001 rocks! I no longer have to spend 300 bucks a week going to the track or OTB! Just a one time, 50 dollars, and I'm set! Virtual horse racing! It's better than being an actual gambling addict!

Thanks guys, I have Gallo Racer in my hand for ps2. Have yet to put it in, after the neogeo kick.
I did find a crazy jap game called "Arlington Park Racing" and that for me being right next to it is soo odd. it was basicly a bar bet game thing, that was outlawed.
anyways i look forward to it. Off to the OTB

Don't forget "Great Day at the Races" for the CD-I. Nothing beats a digitized Mickey Rooney talking about horses!
