Ack...Where I wrote "Renegade" up above, that should be "Vigilante"

Seems the arcade game has the same problems as the NES game (and how do you get out of a hold??) - but it seems to have more charm than Vigilante. Much more! Damn, here I'm mistaking TG-16 games for NES games...that's pretty bad. :P

This Renegade seems pretty...so-so...but Vigilante...don't get me started. That game's nearly impossible, never mind that you can't do anything to REACH certain bad dudes when they've got a knife before they cut you (maybe a jump kick?), and when you come down one of the four guys on your tail will grab you. Horrible, horrible. Nice dispatching the basic goon with one kick, but the rest is terrible. The ambience/music/speech samples are great, though!

"Mo-Donna!" is a great voice sample. I also love it that there's a bar in the background called the "PIPI Room". That got my imagination running wild when I was a kid.

Vigilante itsn't impossible, though. I've beat that game millions of times. I don't play it anymore because it's so old hat for me now, in fact. It's all about using those rapid fire switches!

But they don't add replay value. They add "suck factor" to a game that didn't need it.

If you want to play a game with doors like that, play Shenanigade, not Renegade. No sense in ruining a perfectly good game.

RENEGADE doesn't have those doors. It's a stupid move for the company to add some lame crap like that to a game that would have sold gangbusters if it was just a straight port.
Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.

I totally disagree - For me the "doors" are a total extension of the game's value. As I mentioned above....I just picked it up again few weeks ago and found new rooms with new challenges. I guess u just fail to understand my point. ehhh

Has anyone besides me noticed that Vigilante seems to be a prettier (and harder) version of Kung Fu Master with weapons? Hell, they were both by Irem, which most likely accounts for the similarities (probably the team that created Vigilante had KFM in mind when they thought Vigilante up).

Yeah, that's exactly what Vigilante is. I like KFM, though, so Vigilante appeals to me on some level.

The game isn't life-changing or anything, but it's not a complete piece of crap. It's pretty fun, if you're into that sort of KFM/My Hero style gameplay.

No, I think you don't understand my point.

The game that you like on the NES that's called "Renegade" is NOT, in actuality, Renegade.

It's anything else. Ruinedegade, Runtigade, Crapegade, whatever. But it's not Renegade.

    That's it.

Dude this is not about the arcade version. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE ARCADE VERSION! I never played it...i prolly never will.

This topic is about the NES version....and just because it is not as good as the arcade version makes no difference to me.

I like the NES version - and this topic is about the NES version

you can't label a game - "bad", just because threre is a better game out there.

I had never played this game before reading the thread, and after downloading and playing it, I feel like it is a very sub-par game.

If you like the game, more power to you. There's no reason to flame because people have differnet opinions.

Target: Renegade is one of the few NES games I bought that were so bad that I sold...
