I don't think eBay is really too concerned about the 1cent starting and high shipping fees. Yes you can report them, but does the auction ever get pulled? Has anyone ever seen an auction that got pulled because of high shipping fees?

Also if you look on eBay they will advertize 1cent CD's. I think it is a whole listing catagory. Most people who are starting at 1cent have inflated shipping.

If you think about it and add shipping into what you are willing to pay it could be worth it. What if you really wanted a game, and people started it out at 12.99 with 3.00 shipping + 15.99 total right? So what is the difference if you pay 1cent for the game and 15.98 shipping. This would probably work out better because most people would scoff at the high shipping and not take as much interest in the listing.

So if you add everything up, it may be a good deal to the right person at the right time. What do we care if someone is trying to avoid fees!
Condoleezza Rice is nice, but I prefer A Roni!

Well, yeah. Technically it's the same price either way. And I know that I always take shipping into account (to the point that I'll even add things up and punch it into the USPS calculator to test accuracy).

But it says something about the seller and their product if they don't have enough faith to let the auction system work in the way it's supposed to. Think about it -- any sane person knows that the item is worth far more than a penny, and that they're basically paying exactly what the seller wants them to pay when they cave in on exorbitant shipping fees.

If you want to set your own prices, open a store at Half.com. If you want to give people a shot at finding a bargain, then give them the freedom to set their own price.

You assign too high an IQ to your customers. I listed several old videos for $2.00 bid plus $2 shipping ($4 total) and did not sell.

A week later I marked them down to 0.01 cents and $4 ship and they sold.

    Same price but different results.

Ebay should be concerned about these auctions, if not for fee avoidance issues, then for customer protection. For instance, if a buyers wins a game for 1 penny and shipping & handling is $19.99, the total price is $20. The game could very well be worth $20, so the buyer doesn't care. But what if the item isn't as advertised and the buyer wants a refund. Does that mean the buyer is only entitled to 1 penny???

Anyone who buys a product from this assclown gets what they deserve.

    Same goes for BloodRayne

Sometimes shipping helps grab a deal, but we really should try and not cave in to paying ridiculos shipping prices. I am guilty of it though.
I have no problem with it at all as long as the total cost is reasonable and the seller doesn't try to hide the shipping cost. In fact, I've bid on a few like this.

Because it's not dumb if you can save money. if the item is worth more than $30 and you only pay $1 even with a $20 shipping fee you still make out.

Different item, too, so what's the comparison? I wouldn't even begin to sell old videos for $2 each. Maybe 50 cents.

But hey, you run your auctions and I'll run mine.
