Default Dragon Warrior IV Remake - In English?

    OK, LONG SHOT going here....
After a couple drinks as well... So be gentle....

They remade DW4 in japan. For the PS1 right? I know it didn't come stateside. Does anyone know where I can get an english hack burnable PS1 image of this? PM, reply, or E-mail at Sylentwulf@ElectricQuarter.com

Not sure how kosher this post is, so just delete if it's a no-no. Just one of my all time "I wish this came stateside" games, so I figure d I'd try (all of the OTHER non-stateside DW games being highest on the list as well)

Still can't understand why the BEST SELLING GAMES IN THE WORLD were never translated. DW8 coming out in jp soon, virtually a holiday even with the game going for $85.00. Sigh.

Besides the obvious graphic and sound improvements were there any changes to the dialogue or the gameply or storyline?

    Yes...

    *Spoilers Ahoy!*

There is a bonus dungeon at the end of the game featuring areas from Dragon Warrior 7 with enemies from that game. Also, the final boss Necrosaro joins your party after doing some sidequests. His attacks rule! Once this happens, one of his final four fiends becomes the true main boss. I haven't defeated the new final boss yet, though...

You can also make an immigrant town like the one on Dragon Warrior 7.

To answer Sylentwulf's question, is there anyone making an English hack of this game? It would be interesting to see

Nope. There is currently no translation patches nor do I recall anyone working on the game.

The ONLY psx translations out at the moment are Bloody Bride, Finger Flashing, Nekketsu Oyako, and Tobal 2.

Enix decided the market for the PS1 was too weak to relase the remake of DW4 in the States. it sucks, cause that's my FAVORITE game in the series. I was so angry when I heard that.

Actually I seem to remember reading that the company responsible for developing the game in Japan, Heartbeat went out of buisness and Enix of America needed their help to disasemble the code in order to insert the English text.

Otherwise the game was set to go and hence they ran ads for it in the back of DW7.

    SPOILER:

Apparently its because one of the sidequests lets you bring his girlfriend Rosa back from the dead. Personally while the remake looks neat, I don't think I'm a big fan of Necrosaro being a party member. He was one of my favorite RPG villains, since unlike the previous DQ villains, he seemed to actually have something resembling a backstory. He made for a great final boss, and suddenly making him "good" and have you fight somebody else sounds awkward. Plus I'd love to know why the hero is willing to forgive the man who at the beginning of chapter 5 murdered everyone in his home town. I don't know about anyone else, but I sure would hold a grudge. :P

    END SPOILERS

Unfortunately, Heartbeat's (The company that made it.) coding is apparently complex, so its unlikely any hackers will attempt to translate this game anytime soon. Would be nice of Square-Enix to consider bringing DQ5 PS2 remake over here to make up for it, but they haven't seemed to make any attempt to do so.

For the story they added a little intro thing that takes place in the hero's town before Chapter 1 starts out. other than the new Chapter 6 the dialogue is mostly the same.

For Gameplay they added that you can manual control your teammates in chapter 5. If you remember in the NES version you had to pick an AI setting and generally the AI was pretty dump for magic users. They took out the Metal Babble item you can win in the Casino and replaced it with a Falcom Sword. You can get that Metal Babble item if you make the Immigrant Town into a certain form. Speaking of the Immigrant Town they added 2 new final forms, the Castle Town, and the Women's Town that wasn't in DW7. They also added a bunch more Tiny Medals as well as some more prizes that you can get from the Metal King. Torneko learns some Merchant skills that if you've played DQ 6 or 7 you'll be famliar with. The costs of stuff in the secret shop was increased a fair amount.

Someone actually is working on DQ4. Other than maybe dumping the script I don't know if there's much progress on the project.

I seem to recall that they didn't release DW4 due to the amount of piracy that happened with DW7. DW4 was definitely one of the best NES games, it was a shame that it wasn't released here on the Playstation.

Actually, the REASON they didn't fully translate DW4 is because the main guy quit and went to work for some no-name company making gamecube games oddly enough.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Well, there's always a thin hope that if we bug Square Enix enough they may consider bringing the game out in the States. They should do a collection bundle like they did with the Game Boy.

Shoot lets get 5 and 6 here first then we can talk about 4

Interesting enough I got my copy of romancing saga 3 in today with the guide. Guide was over 200 pages, its amzing how many english words are in these guides, especially when there were no plans of bringing the game over.

That's good they let you manually control the others instead of the AI, but what is/was the Immigrant Town again and Chapter 6 was the side quest? (been quite some time since I played DW4 actually)

And I liked the translated DQ6, good story.

You can access Chapter 6 once you've beat Death Pisaro at the end of the Chapter 5. It gives you a choice to save your game once the credits stop rolling. Basically you can revive the Elven women by going through the bonus dungeon that's located beneath the last normal town. There's a couple of small things you have to do before this and once you've beat the bosses of the bonus dungeon they tell you where to get an item to revive the elf girl. After that you go to the place that you fight Death Pisaro and the Elf girl stop him and he joins your group and than you can take on the final boss. I think the final boss was the one that originally killed the elf girl if I remember right.

As for the Immigrant Town it happens in Chapter 5 after you've helped Hoffman out and you get your ship. It's located where the Bazaar is in Chapter 2. Basically at different spots in various townas immigrants will appear at various spots. You have the choice to mention the town and than they leave and go to the new town. As you get more people the town will grow and new items can be found in the normal places as well as weapons and armor shops. once you get to 30 to 40 people you'll get to the town's final form. If you have so many of certain kinds of immigrant you can make different final forms of the town, like if you have a lot of merchants you can get a town with a lot of stores. or if you have a lot of pirates, dancers, bartenders you can get a town with a Casino. Each of the final town forms have various stuff that you can't get anywhere else.

Heck, most I remember from 4 is Necrosoro, Elfland and Zentigata and Master Dragon (seeing DQ4 is the star tof the Zentigata trilogy...and I'm sure I spelled the place wrong too)
