Well, this sure is a nice way to cover up their massive mistake. I have yet to do it, but I'm going to tomorrow.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Number 1 in the 'hood g!
I got one of these discs, played a little of it and did not, luckily, have my memory card wiped out. I still want to take advantage of this deal, however. Was the memory card problem related only to one specific demo or a general problem with the disc? In other words, if I send my disc back and they do an autopsy on it revealing no errors, will I still get a game out of the deal? The way I see it they should send one anyway since the defect could have occured and could have wiped my card...Can you tell I'm married to a lawyer? .
The Viewtiful Joe 2 demo is the one that wipes cards. If you have that demo disc, send it in. If not, then no luck for you.

Kewl. I got the demo but I never actually played it. Do you think I should send it in anyway? I kinda feel bad taking advantage of the offer, even if it is from a multi-billion dollar corporation.
"First, we have aspirin. A common cure for things that aspirin cures. Leads to.....rabies."
Huh. No Viewtiful Joe 2 demo on my disc (and I would actually have played that one, too...shudder). My disc was mailed to me by PS Underground. Who got the VJ2 disc? Was that just in the magazines?
Well, I guess I won't be trying to screw Sony then. They are trying make up for this gaffe in a big so I've got to give them a break.
Here's some info to help those of you who have a legitimate claim, then:
1) When you call the 800-345-SONY number dial 1, then 0 to get through the phone tree to to a customer rep.
2) If you already have a PS2 Serial# on file with them (say, from a DRE fix) they won't ask you for it again.
3) Mailing address to return the discs is:
SCEA
attn: Demo
PO Box 5888
San Mateo, CA 94402-0888
so you must ask yourself...is sly 2 more appealing than a demo disk that everyone sends back?
likely, but ill still keep an eye out for those demos...
The customer rep I spoke to this evening read a canned yet contrite statement which said that SCEA is actually trying to get the discs out of circulation. The way I see it if you've got a problem disc (which I apparently don't...and thanks to Mr FoodMonster for bursting my bubble ) you're still doing SCEA a favor by sending it back to them, thus earning a free game for your efforts. Just give them a convincing boo-hoo-hoo (but don't be indignant) about your card being wiped and they'll hook you right up.Originally Posted by Crush Crawfish

Still, I'm glad to see them doing something to try to make up for it.
Someone may want to hold on to their demo disc if they are trying to recall these -- it may become a *gasp* COLLECTABLE!

Actually, this doesn't prove anything as to who's fault it is. Sony put the demo disc together and are taking reposibility. Obviously they didn't test it well, but I'm willing to bet it was a screwup by Capcom that actually erased the cards.
oddly enough, they let their underground subscribers know last month of the glitch, as this e-mail i dug up shows:
Dear PlayStation(R) Underground Member,
You are scheduled to receive the Holiday 2004 Demo Disc
including the playable Viewtiful Joe 2 - please take note.
It has just been brought to our attention that there is a
glitch in this demo which will erase all of your saved files
from your Memory Card(s). If you have not yet played the
Viewtiful Joe 2 demo, please remove your Memory Card(s)
from your PlayStation(R) 2 computer entertainment system
before you load the Holiday 2004 Demo Disc.
Sony Computer Entertainment America would like to express
our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have
caused you.
meaning that some of those underground subscribers that either didn't pay attention to the e-mail or thought out loud "i wonder if this is REALLY gonna happen", are getting a free game. i'm going to keep my demo disc, obviuously. too bad it didn't come in an actual silpcase (they stuck it in the back of a catalog to save a few cents, lol)...
Yep, called Sony today, I know this thing may be a collectable one day but meh, I'd rather have a game I want to play than a demo collectable. I'll be getting my Hot Shots Golf Fore! soon.

oh, the disc IS quite playable. just make sure to remove your memory cards before popping it in. i went through it a few times just to see if all the games worked with no trouble. i do wonder how the glitch is possible and how it slipped past whomever was supposed to look out for things like that...
interestingly enough my friend has a copy(he's giving it to me even though he knows about the free game offer) and I just bought a copy off a forum for 5 bucks...probably trading that one in
Yea I just heard about this yesterday afternoon and I wrote down the number im gonna call them sometime this week or possibly this weekend and get me a free game.
My roomate gave me his demo disk because he said he didnt want it because it'll break the PS2 when you put it in. But i still took advantage of his ignorance...and geting a free game and still having a copy of the demo...am I going to hell for that?
This is all the more reason to take saves that are really important to you, and back those puppies up! Extra memory card, PS2 USB key thing, whatever.
